"Everything worked like clockwork. My contact Bradley was very communicative, available and understanding throughout the entire process, as were the crew, during the job. I was very happy with the process and the work done, and along the way, each step in the process was fully explained to me. I felt listened to and heard - each person I spoke with accurately addressed my thoughts, concerns and needs. I felt everyone involved in my roof repair, from Bradley, to the office personne,l and the roofing foreman and crew, addressed and fully discussed all my questions and needs, quickly and to my 100% satisfaction. I also felt respected and valued as the homeowner. I appreciate the good care and excellent product I received in exchange for this, which is a major expense for a homeowner."

"If you are looking for a quality roof, siding and gutter contractor, this is who you'll want to call first! Chuck was very knowledgeable in helping me to deal with the whole insurance claim process. He took pictures from the rooftop to show me the damage, which I was able to forward to my agent. He was very good with customer service. He had a crew that worked very efficiently to finish the job on time. They were courteous and respectful. They cleaned everything up when they were finished. They used high quality materials. My roof went from the worst on the block to the best on the block. My neighbor was so impressed with the work, that she hired the M Construction to replace her roof. Hers looks great too! Other contractors just wanted to get the eagle view of the property to see how much the job was worth and try to set up an appointment with the adjuster. Some wouldn't even go up on the rooftop to view the damage. If you want a full-service contractor, that cares about his customers, this one is definitely a good one! I am very happy that my roof was done right, worked within the insurance claim budget, and looks great!"

Siding questions, answered by experts

The cost of wood siding varies by the type of wood. Engineered wood siding tends to be in the middle of typical costs ($3 to $7 per square foot for materials). Hardwoods, for instance, can cost $5 to $20 per square foot for materials alone, but cedar wood can be as cheap as $3 per square foot.

No, you don’t need to use the same siding around the entire home. Using different siding for different walls can actually increase the soft value of your home. Many homeowners opt to add vinyl siding on the sides of their home not facing the street, opting for higher-end siding materials like stone or wood for the front of the house. Stone veneer siding can be a cost-effective option for homeowners who like the appearance of stone, but not the cost.

You may only need to repaint fiber cement siding every decade or so, but you should clean it every six to 12 months, depending on your local climate. First, wash with a garden hose or similar low-pressure device (not a high-pressure washer, which can damage the material) to remove dirt and any large debris. Then, gently wipe down the surface with a soft brush or cloth in a side-to-side motion, following the grain of the fiber cement.

Not wrapping a house before installing siding can lead to moisture intrusion, rot, mold, and even higher energy bills. Older houses may have siding installed without wrap underneath, so it’s a good idea to add a wrap layer when it comes time to replace old siding to prevent potential damage from water intrusion—local codes may even require it, so check with your municipal building authority.

If you’re wondering how to clean clapboard siding, the approach depends on its material and condition. Siding in good shape may need only light soap and spray from the hose, while older siding often requires more thorough treatment. For serious cleaning, power washing can remove caked-on dirt, but you should consider hiring a professional to avoid causing damage in the process.
