"Great! They were unable to get all the way to the street from the catch basin. It was suggested I add a sewer clean out assure all the roots were gone and make it easier for future cleaning. This was suggested in the past, by another company , but the cost was out of sight. This company was very fair in price for both the cleaning (which included the inspection with the camera) and for the clean out installation."

"Nick showed me that the wall switch was in the "off" position. How stupid I felt as I had checked for a switch under the sink not realizing the switch (which I never use) was on the wall. But while he was here, he checked the filter which needed cleaning, reminded me how to remove it and clean it and installed a galvanized electrical box and cover to enclose the bare wires from the unused garbage disposer. He also provided me with a free sample of a dishwasher cleaner I can order from Amazon. So this was not a wasted service call. Nick and his assistant were early in arriving, friendly and cleaned up after their work. I have used Park Ridge before in my other home and would certainly use them again."

"It was a great deal and I'm glad we had it done. The crew did the assigned work quickly and efficiently, reporting the results to me and answering my questions about other work. They offered me an alternative for rodding the waste stacks and we are considering it. There was no heavy pressure, just good information and description. It's more expensive than what we are doing now but the technique looked interesting so I will pursue and get back to them. Even if we don't do the hydroblasting we may still use this company for the rest of our work."

"Nick did a great job and quickly got my drain unclogged. The previous owner had appeared to have leaks at some point and rather then replace the P trap they had just glued it over and over. Nick was able to get it removed and replace it with new pipes. I will definitely call Green Tech again for all my plumbing needs."

"Trust! I think trust is most important in choosing an expert to fix a problem. Of course experience, knowledge, ability and integrity are also needed. But trusting the reviews written by others or trusting the recommendation of a friend is sometimes all we have to go by. I had a clogged drain about 15 feet “downstream” from my kitchen sink. It was the result of overzealous use of the garbage disposal. I tried snaking the drain myself but the clog was too big (turns out about 2 feet of drain was totally blocked). I did research on several websites looking for a plumber in my area who I could trust to do the work right - at a fair price. I narrowed the list to 4 companies. At 7:15 PM on a weekday I called each of them. I got two answering services that could not answer any of my technical questions, another said they would have someone call me back “in a few minutes” (never happened) and then there was Dmitry. Dmitry is one of the owners of CJ Plumbing. He answered the phone himself. He was able to discuss my issue intelligently, explain the likely scenarios and give me an estimated price range (min and max) for the job. It was clear from his questions and his input that he understood the problem and knew the likely solutions. As it turns out, he was absolutely correct about the issue and what it would take to fix it. I wanted to consider what he said before making a commitment. He said I could call him back anytime in the next few hours. I called several hours later and again he answered the phone and we scheduled a visit for the following afternoon. The plumber who showed up (not the person I spoke to) was a delight to work with. He was professional, polite, and patient as he answered my many questions. He tried a few “easy” options to fix the problem (e.g. using a powered drain snake). When those did not work he said the best option was to cut out the clogged section of drain (which he had located) and replace it with a new section of pipe. The clogged part of the pipe included two 90 degree bends. He removed that section and replaced the sharp bends with pairs of 45 degree bends to allow waste to pass through the more easily. The drain pipe ran along the ceiling of my unfinished basement so there was direct access to the pipe. After replacing the section of pipe he verified that there were no leaks and cleaned up the area of the basement where he worked as well as the area under the kitchen sink. He even cleaned the sink. I was VERY pleased with his work and with his personality. The cost of the repair was within the range quoted on the phone (though near the higher end). My trust in CJ Plumbing was rewarded by their performance and their honesty. I would definitely use them again and would recommend them to friends and family. I recommend them to YOU."

"Anthony came out right away and identified the problem (there was more than one.) He offered several solutions and scheduled the work for the next day. The workers were punctual and as clean as possible (no small feat when you are drilling cement.) Our basement is finished and due to access, they had to take down part of a wall but all was explained upfront. I would definitely hire them again. We were so upset about the water because we had just laid new carpet (of course) but Anthony made me feel better once he identified the problem and we agreed upon a solution. Also had them install new sump pumps as we were nearing that time and we wanted to be as safe as possible. Really felt it was a fair price given all the work they did."

"I discovered a backed up drain in the basement, looked for a recommendation on Angie's List for a plumber, called J. Blanton, and within a few hours Matt arrived to quickly confirm my problem and fix it. Service was fast, on time, solved the problem in one visit: cannot ask for more. Very satisfied with J Blanton and will use again for a full house inspection of faucets, toilets, drains, etc.

"Both kitchen sinks leaked unto the bottom of the kitchen cabinet.   He made all efforts to repair the leakage points but found out that the sink was installed at a different angle than previously when a new counter  was put in.   As a result everything was askew and new parts had to be installed.   When he took the old pipe off the rotten (very old) metal threads broke and all the plumbing had to be replaced.  After that setback and getting needed parts he quickly got everything together and there have been no leaks since.   YEAH!!!!     Excellent job, I would never call anyone else.   Honest, knows what he is doing.    If you're thinking about getting a plumber, this one will do the job right and at a fair price.

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

If your garbage disposal powers up and you can hear it hum, but the arms inside aren’t moving, the problem might be a stubborn clog, a build-up of grease, or a jam of the impeller plate. To troubleshoot these, ensure your unit is off and disconnected from its power source before checking inside the drain or attempting to manually rotate the impeller arms or plate from the underside of the unit. A hex wrench can help.

These appliances certainly increase the number of things allowed down the drain, but they’re not foolproof. There are several items you shouldn’t put in your garbage disposal, according to manufacturers and technicians. Don’t put coffee grounds down the drain. The same goes for eggshells, potato peels, hard foods, onion skins, and any dry, expandable food. Most importantly, never put grease or oils down the drain.

The most common garbage disposal size in the U.S. is 1/2 horsepower. This size is ideal for households with three or fewer people or those that don't produce much food waste. Although 1/2 horsepower can't handle the typical food waste load for a household of four (which is about 250 pounds of food waste annually) as effectively as 3/4 horsepower, it remains the most common size of garbage disposal on the market.

On average, a garbage disposal can last anywhere from 7 to 12 years, with many models functioning well for about 10 years. With heavy usage, a motor may last a minimum of five years, while grinding plates will wear down over time. It's generally a good idea to consider a replacement if your unit is approaching the 10-year mark. Other signs that it's time for a new disposal include frequent leaks, persistent clogs, lingering odors, lack of power, or unusual noises. If your unit is not that old, it's worth investigating if a less expensive part, like a rubber seal or a loose hose, is causing the issue.

These appliances do unscrew, but you need to disconnect everything properly when you replace your garbage disposal. Make sure you shut the power off to the area first and check that it’s off with a voltage detector. Disconnect the main drain line and P-trap, and then disconnect the dishwasher drain line if you have one connected. You can then unscrew your garbage disposal using a disposal wrench. Just make sure you disconnect the electrical lines before removing your appliance.
