"Steve did a great job refinishing our gold bathtub to white. He was very prompt and courteous. In and out in about 2 hours with no mess left behind. When Steve finished he reviewed with us the warranty and cleaning process of the tub. I will recommend The Surface Doctors to others. Gunnar was very prompt in answering my questions via email. Thank you for a professional job well done."

"Helping my mom update her bathroom was something I took very seriously. She?s getting older, and her old bathtub was becoming difficult ? and honestly unsafe ? for her to use. We decided to convert it into a walk-in shower and upgrade the fixtures to better suit her needs. Century City Baths made the entire process feel reassuring from start to finish. The installation team was wonderful. They treated my mom?s home with respect, worked carefully, and kept everything clean and organized. The workmanship is excellent ? everything feels sturdy, well-installed, and thoughtfully placed. What means the most to me is the peace of mind. My mom can now use her bathroom safely and comfortably, and she actually enjoys the space again. It?s bright, modern, and designed with her needs in mind."

"I've had the pleasure of working with J.T. General Contracting over a period of approx. 3 years. During the process of upgrading my mother's house, Jim Taccola (owner) guided me thru 2 bathroom remodels, several door replacements, a front stoop replacement and numerous other projects. He not only demonstrated expertise in many areas of remodeling and repair, but was also skilled in coordinating the various trades involved. He was honest and insightful with regards to all aspects of the projects from general concepts to minor details. He was consistently timely in communications, respectful and sensitive to our needs throughout. And this all with a most pleasant demeanor. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed working with Jim and would highly recommend him to anyone interested in just about any facet of home remodeling or repair."

"Overall we are very happy with the two remodeled bathrooms in our condo. 4Ever responded promptly to our first call and sent a detailed estimate and contract. This detailed quote clearly laid out what was included with payment schedules and warranty information. The only issue we had with the quote was the estimated allowance for materials, which was too low. They estimated $5,000 total for two bathrooms to cover items we would later select and order directly such as tile, grout, bathtub, vanities, toilets, faucets, lighting fixtures, towel bars, glass, etc. We ended up spending double that amount for all of these materials. Prices for these items can vary a lot of course, but we didn't select any extremely high end custom items. 4Ever design staff communication was very good, so we were able to see the material costs as they developed and ask questions along the way. We also received detailed invoices directly from the vendors before placing our orders. The prices we paid for these items was fair, and the materials are all high quality. We just wish the original estimate for these variable materials was closer to the true total. Schedule: Our bathrooms were built one at a time at our request since we did not have a third bathroom to use during construction. We signed a contract in October and began working with 4Ever on design, ordering materials, and permit applications. Demolition on the primary bathroom began January 28. That bathroom was almost complete when demo began on the guest bathroom March 11. We had no shower for a few days while the team had to troubleshoot an issue with the shower fixtures in the new primary bathroom, then that was solved and the focus moved to the guest bathroom. Both bathrooms were fully compete on April 22. Magda was extremely helpful and responsive throughout the design phase and materials selection, listening to our requests and offering excellent ideas and advice. We wanted to expand the tiny shower in our primary bathroom, but we couldn't know whether that was possible until the walls and floor were removed. Magda and Anna prepared two designs so we could proceed either way. On demolition day the plumber determined that he could expand the shower, which was great news. The extra space makes it so much more functional and comfortable. We really appreciate the extra design and coordination effort that made it possible. During construction, Maciek was our project manager who sent schedule updates, coordinated construction staff and inspections, and answered questions. Construction staff varied for different stages of the work, but Adam was the person most often working on site. He was helpful when we had questions, offered good suggestions, and was clearly focused on building the bathrooms to our satisfaction. He does beautiful work with great attention to detail."

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

Installing a bathtub can be complex, depending on your prior plumbing experience, the type of bathtub you’re installing, and whether you need to make any changes to your bathroom’s plumbing. It’s advisable to leave this job to the pros, especially if you’re new to the world of plumbing.

Completing a full standard bathroom remodel offers the best value, with an average return on investment (ROI) of 70%. However, you don't need a full remodel to make an impact. To maximize value, focus on key components like flooring, the tub and shower, vanity, and cabinets. High-value upgrades include installing a walk-in shower, resurfacing a tub, retiling, or expanding the shower. For more budget-friendly options that still increase value, consider repainting with a light, neutral color, or updating the mirror and light fixtures. It's also crucial to address any necessary repairs, such as leaks, mold, or cracked tiles, as buyers will notice these issues. Avoid flashy upgrades like bathtub jets or steam showers, which don't add as much value.

If you have an alcove in your bathroom, you don’t necessarily need to install an alcove tub. You can choose a drop-in tub and fit the frame to the alcove. This allows you to get a more custom or spa-like look. Think cultured marble or tiling for the frame versus the simpler look of acrylic or fiberglass with an alcove tub.

To keep a walk-in tub in good condition, clean it regularly with non-abrasive cleaners. It is also important to periodically inspect the seals, jets, and faucets to ensure they are functioning correctly.

A powder room cannot have a bath. If it had a bath, it would likely be considered a three-quarter bath or full bath, depending on the other features. You might hear the term “powder room” used to describe a bathroom used by guests, but it wouldn’t technically be a powder room. However, powder rooms or half baths are ideal for guests because they can use it without entering the more private areas of the home.
