"We had an eleven year old cedar deck that needed sanding and restaining as well as replacing some rotting boards. We received several estimates for the work and Minquiz Construction came in with a quote that was very reasonable. We are so glad we chose them to do the job. Angel is a craftsman. Our deck stairs had an interesting design and Angel replicated that design and it actually looks better than it did originally. He ended up having to put several coats of stain on the base and he worked on it until it was perfect. We would definitely use Minquiz again."

"Josef does excellent work - I would hire him again. He replaced a 15 foot railing in front of my home. He took extra care to match the color of the stain (including sending me pics from the hardware store to confirm). Scheduling took a more back and forth than expected but it was worth the wait."

"The handyman that arrived was not comfortable with the estimate. He suggested the job be done on Hourly rate to determine time that it would take after he tries to do one of 7 openings. That was too open ended and the conclusion could not be determined. Ultimately, agreed to not proceed. This was done with myself sending photos of Gazebo. That was reason that handyman was not comfortable with estimate. Big waste of time for all of us. He did do a great job on the storage door. It was not handyman’s fault this turned out the way it did. I recommend you Be careful in acceptIng estimate done purely with photos."

"We engaged Tom Burrell of TD Burrel D&S for a deck renovation project that involved updating an aging wooden deck with TimberTech composite decking. From the outset, Tom demonstrated exceptional craftsmanship, creative spirit, and a deep understanding of the materials. We selected Tom due to his expertise and experience with TimberTech, his competitive pricing, and his flexibility with the project scope. We received quotes from three other deck companies, all of which were more expensive and less accommodating. Tom was thorough, detailed, flexible, patient, and kind. We recommend Tom and his work, however, a few considerations to keep in mind: 1. Our project was planned for 2023 but was ultimately delayed into 2024 due to unforeseen financial circumstances and impacts from other projects. Though unplanned and unfortunate, Tom maintained consistent communication with us throughout this period. 2. Tom operates mostly as a one-man team. While this is reflected in his lower overhead costs, it also means that the project pace will likely be slower compared to companies with larger teams. Our project was initially scheduled for a few weeks but ultimately took several months to complete due to necessary structural corrections, additions to the work order, intermittent issues with equipment and weather. 3. We recommend proactively asking about potential incremental costs for any changes in scope and stipulating that any updates be discussed and agreed upon in writing before implementation. For our specific project, corrections were necessary to the existing deck structure and additional items were discussed and added to the work. This resulted in the final project cost exceeding our initial budget expectation. While these changes were required and requested, discussions regarding the additional costs occurred late in the project. Keeping all parties aligned on scope and cost will help avoid any surprises and make finalizing the project easier. Despite these considerations, Tom is committed, easy to work with, and delivered a beautiful deck that our family will enjoy for many years to come."

"Job consisted of installing garage insulation/drywall, fixing tape (that connects drywall throughout entire garage), applying Sheetrock, sanding, & painting entire garage. Very impressed at professionalism and excellent detailed work done. Very happy/amazed with outcome. Such a large job that Carlson made look very simple with his efficiency/skills. Would definitely hire Carl W. Carlson again, as heâ s very detailed as well as resourceful. He not only did the detailed work perfectly, but ended up doing much more than what planned (taking ramp apart/out of garage, taking commercial tread out, transferring to POD, answering questions which had nothing to do with why hired him (I.e. door handle installation questions on storm door; he gave helpful answers that saved me much time). Bottom line: was relieved to se how perfect the garage walls looked after insulating, putting up drywall, fixing entire garage drywall taping, and building/straightening existing problems in wall itself. He ended up recommending/fixing more problems than realized garage had, Even lighting Is 100 times better than before. Definitely highly recommend! PS By the way, he volunteered to help family member take extremely rusted bolt license plate off (has every right tool you can think of). Also, he recommended the POD (which never thought of) for commercial treadmill, since wanted garage floor epoxied afterwards. HIGHLY RECOMMEND CARL W. CARLSON for any Jakob. Hard, detailed, efficient worker that does quality work!"

Gazebos questions, answered by experts

Log cabins are relatively difficult to maintain compared to a traditional house. That’s because log cabins require regular upkeep and care that can include refinishing and corncob blasting, a process similar to sandblasting that shoots ground-up corncob with compressed air.

Using concrete footers is the best way to secure a gazebo on a deck without drilling. The weight of the footers is more likely to hold your gazebo in place than other methods. You can also pour concrete into flower pots to create an aesthetically pleasing concrete footer or use concrete columns to make a statement.

Fascia and soffits differ in their location and design, but fascia vents are the most popular alternative to soffits. These are a bit more hidden than soffits, but depending on the structure of your roof, they can cost more to install and maintain. They are also installed around the entire roof, whereas soffits can be placed only where you need them or, if the aesthetics bother you, somewhere out of sight.

On average, building or installing a gazebo costs around $5,700, with a typical range between $3,000 and $10,000. The final price depends on several factors, including the gazebo's size, shape, material, and design complexity. Material choice is a significant cost driver; for example, brick is often more affordable, while metal can be one of the more expensive options. Square-shaped gazebos can also be more expensive to build. Custom features, such as built-in seating or lighting, will increase the total price. You may be able to save money by purchasing a prefabricated gazebo kit or performing some of the labor yourself.

Yes, many gazebos are permanent structures built onto the land. However, if you have a portable gazebo that isn’t secured to the ground, you’ll want to check the manufacturer’s instructions to understand when to put it away. Generally speaking, when it’s particularly windy or wet outside, you should take down your temporary gazebo.
