Joe was great with the design and the crew knew what they were doing. We chose The Remodeling Station for the creativity shown and suggestions made during the design phase. In order to understanding what I am getting during the actual construction, I do review the job daily with the crew and check in with them every hour or two. That ensures that decisions are mine and if there is a mistake or cost change, it was my decision that caused it. I've found that saves a lot of grief in the long run. When a decision needed to be made the crew did a nice job of giving me options. The reality is the crew makes all the difference as does resolving issues as they arise. They also worked nicely with my wife as she assisted in the design. My wife also helped explain some of the plumbing and electrical to me because I wasn't getting it. So it was very important to me that the crew worked with my wife. A major item learned is that we should have had two additional meetings with Joe. Due to schedules, holidays and us waiting on materials, there was a large gap of time (months) between our last meeting and the start of the job. As I was checking in on the job, I found the crew building/modifying designs that we did not want. If I hadn't caught what they were doing, the crew would have had a lot of tear down to get to the agreed upon design. I worked directly with the crew to get back to the original design, which they cleared with Joe. I believe this design gap in meetings would have happened with any contractor because of the large amount of time. As stated above, the crew was great. As they did work, our design had to change because we couldn't make final decisions until various parts were demolished or constructed. When deciding where to put tub and shower handles, the crew showed me how the plumbing was to run, etc. That was important because we wanted a specific look to the bathroom and it required a lot of new plumbing and electrical. It was the crew's experience that made my decision making easier. Once some of the decisions were made, I had the crew draw it out and then I ran out and bought the parts for the next day. An example was that they had finished measuring where the tub and shower would be and I ran out that night to buy all the lighting canisters, switches, etc. Given the extra time our design changes added, I thought that the additional pricing was fair. We had a yucky kitchen. It was tiny, out-dated, ugly and inefficient, so when the cabinets literally started falling off the walls in 2010 we tried to think of a way to fix things without spending an arm and a leg. We waded through 4 contractors whose designs just regurgitated the boring townhouse configuration using expensive new cabinets, and premium-priced and quot;white gloveand quot; labor. Awesome thing #1 Designer: A friend recommended Robert Dirienzo at Pearl Design to help us with a design and cabinets selection. I whined to Bob by phone over the lack of original ideas and options, and he drove out immediately to see and measure our space. Then... he proved how well he listens by sketching a perfect solution on the spot, including interesting variations no other contractor came up with. Finally, he tossed in cool design and storage details I totally loved. He had a solid quote to us by email within a day and invited us to Pearl Design showroom right in Carol Stream - where we found a nice selection of of cabinets, accessories, styles and options. Awesome thing #2 Contractor: Bob's referred us to Gus for our work. Gus listened to our and quot;what if we wanted to....and quot; ideas, and worked with Bob to give us an end-product we were thrilled with. Gus and his assistant did great work, had expert ideas and opinions, but didn't charge pretentiously. They shared their opinions, but also helped us develop our own loopy ideas without being condescending or annoyed with our lack of experience. Awesome thing #3: No oopses at the end: Gus and Bob was very thorough in the initial assessment -- so much that each caught several and quot;gotchasand quot; other designers and contractors didn't even notice. At the project end, we didn't have a single surprise or cost slippage. Awesome thing #4: Project Style and schedule of work: Gus was flexible enough in scheduling that we were able to feel comfortable and not rushed, yet we didn't feel like the project dragged out. I have to wonder if he's just that laid back or if he adjusted his project style to work perfectly with us. We're disorganized and procrastinate-y and have trouble making decisions, but Gus hit a perfect rhythm of deadlines versus dawdle. We were given perfectly timed and quot;drop deadand quot; dates for finalizing each purchase so that our orders were shipped and on-site right when he needed them. Awesome thing #5: Connections, connections, connections: Bob and Gus both recommended vendors for countertops and flooring. We shopped around quite a bit on our own but their contacts knocked one out of the park in terms of service, quality and pricing - for both flooring and granite countertop. Awesome thing #6: The finished product: All suggestions, coaching, and patience from Bob, Gus, and Jennifer (at the tile/flooring store) were invaluable. We had a great time working with them and two years later we are still thrilled with our amazing, perfect-for-us kitchen. Now it's time for the stupid bathroom remodel.... ;-("},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/il/bloomingdale/pearl-design-group-reviews-188656.htm"},"position":7},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"ANGUS CONTRACTORS INC","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"IL","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Carol A."},"reviewBody":"It went beautifully. After visiting numerous kitchen design/remodeling stores, we both knew from the moment we meet Susan Klimala that our search was over. She was so easy to work with, upfront on costs with a fabulous eye for design. I found Susan after searching for local area designers that had won design awards that worked on small kitchens as well as large. Our kitchen is a modest size, all the more reason to use a designer to use every inch as efficiently as possible. Susan came to our house to take measurements and took pictures of all the contents in our kitchen cabinets to help her design the best kitchen for us. Susan and Deb designed five sample kitchens for us to choose from. All were beautiful and creative. Susan and Deb even designed a custom soapstone table to match our soapstone countertops. The design that we decided on has improved our entire house because we opened up our kitchen to our dining room, eliminating a wall that separates the spaces. My new kitchen is completely organized. All my storage needs were met with even room for more! Not to mention that it is the kitchen of my dreams. Susan was fantastic through the entire process. She answered literally hundreds of emails and lots of phone calls as we consulted with her about everything from appliances to hardware while picking out choices for our new kitchen. She helped us find a fantastic deal on our floors after a last minute change on our part threatened our budget. While we were finishing choosing all our kitchen choices, Susan won the NKBA 2010 Design Vision Award, 1st place for the Small Kitchen category. Just as important as Susan was in this whole process was her subcontractors, who I can not say enough good things about. We had the option to use her contractors or our own. I am so glad we decided to use Susan's contractors. We were so impressed with them, we decided to have Susan tackle a smaller project for us in the middle of our kitchen remodel. She created a custom built entryway closet. Her carpenter Chris was incredible. He is meticulous, thoughtful and a beautiful craftsman. He is trustworthy and kind and became an adopted part of our family. His crew all did fantastic work. Her electrician Sam and his crew also did a fantastic job as well. Mike Wilson from Hummingbird Soapstone in Glen Ellyn installed our countertops and I can not praise him enough. Our soapstone counters and custom soapstone table are the highlights of the kitchen. Susan developed a detailed project plan timeline for us a week before our cabinets were due to be delivered. The plan was spot on throughout most of the project. They finished the majority of the work ahead of schedule. Susan also prepared an onsite project book full of her designs, electrical plans, plumbing plans, appliance manuals and other instructions. It kept her crew all on the same page as her during our project. Her crew worked continuously, not a few days here and a few days there as I have seen neighbors experience during their remodeling jobs. Jeff Klimala, Kitchen Studio's co-owner, was onsite and dealt with all the inspections and inspectors as well as helping to make sure that everything met code which kept the project on track. We are still realizing all the intricacies of the kitchen that Susan designed for us. Do not underestimate the value of a designer. We wanted to get the kitchen of our dreams and remodel our kitchen only once. Susan and her studio have surpassed all our expectations. Our remodeling job went very well with very few problems and I know that was no accident. The quality of the materials that the Kitchen Studio uses, the tradesmen that she hires and the perfection of the design made that happen. The few problems that came up were unrelated to Susan and the Kitchen Studio but were due to plumbing and appliance issues. Susan and Jeff helped us to remedy the problems in an efficient manner. We can't wait to work with Susan and The Kitchen Studio of Glen Ellen again to help us redesign our bathrooms. Chris analyzed the slope of the land around my house and made recommendations for locations of downspouts and for the slope of the gutters so that water would be channeled in the appropriate directions. With the original gutters, we had a problem with too much water being channeled in one place resulting in overflowing gutters. I could tell that Chris was really designing the job for me, and not just slapping some gutters on the house any old way. The installers finished the job in one day. Chris was there to ensure that they did the job right. He did not collect payment that day because he wanted to make sure the gutters worked properly first. A few days later we had a very heavy rainstorm. I went out and saw that the gutters were channeling water properly. Biango Construction strives on giving all of our customers the best quality craftsmanship and pricing in the industry. Locally owned operated. We guarantee your satisfaction! Free estimates.
"I had Biango Construction complete a full gut renovation of my main floor powder room and laundry room/mudroom. This included a major change in layouts and moving walls, doors, HVAC, plumbing, gas lines, and electrical. I also had custom cabinets and hall tree built for the space. The final result is exceptional (see photos). While the time ended up taking longer than originally expected, it was worth it to have a trusted pro do the work and to deal with the permit process. The company was easy to work with, professional, and maintained a clean workspace across my house. All individuals working on my house with Nick Biango paid high attention to detail throughout the entire process. I would highly recommend Biango Construction to anyone doing renovations or wanting built-ins added to their home."

"I’ve always wanted a second bathroom. I contacted JK Complete R&C. Jack came to my home and assessed the would be project. Jack gave me a reasonable price, start and proposed finish date. Then I met the crew John, Mike and Ziggy. We had a great relationship. Everything that was to be accomplished was explained to me on a daily bases. By the end of the project we had a bond and it felt like family. I also learned quite a bit in the process. I am total fascinated with my new bathroom. I have already recommended JK Complete to family members."

"I spoke with 3 general contractors regarding the project and chose Jakubek. Dawid and his father were punctual, responsive with follow-up questions, and provided a reasonable quote. Even though I read their highly recommended reviews on Angi's website, I was still nervous about picking a contractor. However, now that the project is completed, I can honestly say Jakubek Inc- father, son, & team were amazing! They shifted cabinets in my kitchen island and installed a new granite countertop to make space for a new 36-inch range to replace my 30-inch range. In addition, they created a new vent plus electrical and installed a new hood. They removed the existing sink and cabinet in the powder room and installed a new cabinet, sink, countertop, and mirror. I moved my furniture out of the main level to have hardwood floors refinished and realized how badly the walls needed to be repainted. They were able to accommodate a last-minute request to paint interior walls and ceiling. Admittedly, the breakdown price for refinishing the hardwood floors was a few thousand more than other quotes, but I liked the continuity of having 1 contractor handle all details. Jakubek removed the quarter-round modeling, the floors were refinished (looked fantastic!) and then re-installed new quarter-round modeling. The team also installed tiles by the backdoor entrance because previously, it was hardwood, and the floor was so damaged by tracking in water/snow. Honestly, I could not ask for a better contractor - so nice, trustworthy, helpful, and felt very comfortable having the team in the house to do the work. I will definitely recommend their work and use them for any future projects."

"Miro redid our kitchen and half bath and we're thrilled with the results. We got a few quotes and ultimately went with Homewise Remodelers because the price was reasonable and Miro was so thorough in walking us through our options. He helped us select cabinets and worked through several versions of the kitchen layout until we were happy with it--we were easily able to swap out cabinet layouts and finishings, like adding a farmhouse sink. His crew were reliable, on-time, and respectful of our property throughout the remodel and we appreciated their attention to detail. They solicited our input on decorative details and were quick to fix things we didn't like, e.g., the location of kitchen cabinet pulls. We felt they treated our home as they would their own. The project even wrapped up a few days early. We would absolutely recommend Homewise Remodelers and choose them for future projects."

FAQs for residential design projects in Carol Stream, IL
One starting point to find a local home builder is to collect suggestions from friends and neighbors. However, it’s still wise to do some more research before you hire a builder. Read reviews to supplement any word-of-mouth recommendations. Check sources like Angi that have standards and criteria in place to screen the pros it lists can also help you find more reputable local home builders.
The cost of home remodeling is $50,000 for the average homeowner. However, this cost can range anywhere from $3,000 for a small projectto $170,000 for a whole home remodel. Factors like project size, location, and room type all affect your overall cost. For example, bedroom remodeling costs are one of the least expensive projects, costing about $1,500 to $5,500 per bedroom. However, a kitchen remodel has a significant cost range, totaling anywhere from $14,500 to over $70,000.
Typically, it’s more affordable to buy an existing home than it is to build a new one. New construction loan interest rates tend to be higher than interest rates for traditional mortgages. Additionally, the cost of materials is likely higher when building a new home than it was when an existing home was built (unless it’s a very new one). You’re also paying for all new appliances, finishes, permits, inspections, and connections for water, gas, and electricity.
Yes, most states require home remodeling contractors to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed home remodeling contractor could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
The best time of year to remodel your home is late winter and early spring when fewer homeowners are thinking about projects and pros are more available. Also consider the type of remodel you want and plan ahead as much as possible. For example, the summer is a great time of year to update your fireplace, but winter is a better option for fixing foundations and building room additions.
