Overall we love our new kitchen and bathroom. Both of rooms look beautiful and we are thrilled with the results. Being in an older home, we did not know what was behind the old façade. Design Invention was able to handle any of the issues found behind the walls and under the floor. They made sure to do everything correctly versus simply getting it done or covering it up.
Both projects started on time, and took just about the amount of time they expected. As issues/concerns came up, they would run the situation by us, with the right fix to bring it up to code. They also asked, throughout the projects, for our opinions on things (locations of items, spacing, etc.) before executing to ensure we were happy with the work. If we wanted anything added or changed, they would let us know the time/effort required to give us the full picture.
While we were happy overall, there were two things that we would have liked to see handled differently through the process. The first was less design support than expected - while Design Invention provided some general feedback around the potential design options, they really left it up to us to define what we wanted the look/feel of each space to be. We were comfortable with this, for the most part; except for the fact that (occasionally) we felt we weren?t aware of all the potential design options available. Someone requiring full design support/development may not get what they need.
Lastly, after living in the rooms for a few days, we noticed a few places some details were missed. Anyone visiting our home and glancing at both spaces would agree they look amazing, but a few of the finishing touches could have been given a little more effort (extra coat of paint, minor hardware alignment, etc). Design Invention was more than happy to come back and address anything we noticed, but it would have been nice not to need to do this.
Overall, we were happy with the work, and would use them again.
I expected this project to be constructed in summer and fall of 2010. The architect obtained bids from two contractors, both of whose work she was familiar with. We met with each one and I selected Thomas Gorton Homes on the basis of both the bid and Tom Evans' general approach to the work.
Delays having nothing to do with the design or construction of the garage caused the project to be put off until spring and summer of 2011. The work began on 6 June, and was substantially complete on 22 August. After the completion of the new driveway system under a different contract, Tom Evans obtained the final inspection and approval on 11 October.
I have been impressed with the quality of the work of each subcontract crew. The demolition, earthwork, and concrete construction crew were precise with every part of the work, used appropriate instruments and measured carefully, respected the surveyor's marks, and finished each aspect of the work carefully. A heavy rainstorm occurred when the excavation was open, and unexpected underground structures were encountered, but all difficulties were handled as though they were not difficult. The carpentry crew were equally exemplary in their construction. Their work is more precise and sound than is typically seen in local residential construction. The electrical work was thoughtfully coordinated by Evans and the electrical contractor. The crew working in the house where the electrical panel is located were both respectful of the residence and precise in their installation, and the installation in the garage is complete and rational. The roofing, siding, and trim work were also executed with precision, dispatch, and completeness.
Evans has been ready, on time, responsive, and helpful at each juncture. He was attentive to the details, frequently on the site, and he made sure that all the parts came together and created the intended whole. He and the earthwork crew responded to save the day when we almost had a coordination problem with the separate contractor's crew who arrived to remove a tree. He has been friendly and helpful in the general daily coordination of events around the occupied residence, the small lot, and the neighbors. He has dealt with the Village staff cooperatively and efficiently. He has worked smoothly with the architect, surveyor, and landscape contractor. The completed work is handsome, sound, and functional.
The construction experience has been more fun than not this summer. I'm glad to have had Tom Evans in charge.

Talked about budget, which we stated as 10%-15% of the value of our home: were told that $50K (10%) would not give us what we want. We agreed to go higher hoping we would get quality work. Two weeks later we met at Normandy to see the design ideas. Very disappointing meeting. No original ideas. One option we requested was forgotten - she left it at another office. She was redrawing for us at the meeting. Her proposal, done on a computer design program, was not aesthetically pleasing, seemed incomplete. She said we could get an island in our kitchen only by widening our space, i.e. by knocking a wall down into the dining room. The cost quoted for all this was appr. $85K. She gave us what we thought was a \"detailed\" scope of work, 4 pages long, which would need to be signed in order to begin work. Looking at it later, we saw a number of errors and items not specified...(ex: we talked about hardwood flooring at our initial meeting, she included pre-finished in the scope of work; she included a price for knocking down the wall into the dining room, but nothing about rebuilding it or structurally supporting this load bearing wall). We asked for a revision trying to make sure that everything was perfect before signing anything. We received a revision a little while later with a note saying \"thanks for being so thorough...I did overlook some items\". This raised the price by another $4K! We did not hire them because we did not get the effort, creativity and detail we expected, especially for the price quoted. We are going with another kitchen design company, who is priced only a bit lower, but who came up with a much better plan within the existing kitchen space. Normandy appears to cater to higher end major projects of a $100K and above, and if this is what you require, then they may provide you with the proper effort and service. We were left with the impression that our job was not expensive enough and thus, not worthy of their time."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/il/hinsdale/normandy-remodeling-reviews-75003.htm"},"position":8},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"DESIGNSTORMS INC","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"IL","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"JP P."},"reviewBody":"We are extremely happy with the functionality and interior design of our finished basement. At the start of the project, Amy proposed floor plans and patiently revised them based on our preferences and feedback. Our basement has ceilings that are less than 8-ft. tall, with portions that are even lower because of duct/pipework. Amy worked around these constraints to produce an open floor plan that flows fluidly between all rooms: playroom, theater, office and full bath. Her design included finished ceilings, canister lights, and visual room separations that eliminated the \"basement\" feel and made the space an extension of the other floors of the house. "I had Biango Construction complete a full gut renovation of my main floor powder room and laundry room/mudroom. This included a major change in layouts and moving walls, doors, HVAC, plumbing, gas lines, and electrical. I also had custom cabinets and hall tree built for the space. The final result is exceptional (see photos). While the time ended up taking longer than originally expected, it was worth it to have a trusted pro do the work and to deal with the permit process. The company was easy to work with, professional, and maintained a clean workspace across my house. All individuals working on my house with Nick Biango paid high attention to detail throughout the entire process. I would highly recommend Biango Construction to anyone doing renovations or wanting built-ins added to their home."

Then I met the crew John, Mike and Ziggy. We had a great relationship. Everything that was to be accomplished was explained to me on a daily bases. By the end of the project we had a bond and it felt like family. I also learned quite a bit in the process. I am total fascinated with my new bathroom. I have already recommended JK Complete to family members."

"I’ll admit, I’m very particular when it comes to cleanliness and details, so I had high expectations for this remodel. Century City Baths team absolutely delivered. "What can I say about Dan and crew? If there were six stars, I would have given them all of those! Our powder room job was also flooring for the hallway and laundry room, plus a utility sink. It was a total gut job in the bathroom. Dan could not have been nicer, quoted us a more than fair price and the job was finished in record time. He was very responsive to any questions we had (ok mostly me). Also, his workers (2) were fantastic. I'm not sure if I should name them, so I won't. They were efficient and professional, asked questions when needed and cleaned up the site and their work space (our garage) every single day. They treated our home with care, as well as our old appliances and new fixtures. We could not have been happier with all of it."

FAQs for residential design projects in Glendale Heights, IL
One starting point to find a local home builder is to collect suggestions from friends and neighbors. However, it’s still wise to do some more research before you hire a builder. Read reviews to supplement any word-of-mouth recommendations. Check sources like Angi that have standards and criteria in place to screen the pros it lists can also help you find more reputable local home builders.
The cost of home remodeling is $50,000 for the average homeowner. However, this cost can range anywhere from $3,000 for a small projectto $170,000 for a whole home remodel. Factors like project size, location, and room type all affect your overall cost. For example, bedroom remodeling costs are one of the least expensive projects, costing about $1,500 to $5,500 per bedroom. However, a kitchen remodel has a significant cost range, totaling anywhere from $14,500 to over $70,000.
Typically, it’s more affordable to buy an existing home than it is to build a new one. New construction loan interest rates tend to be higher than interest rates for traditional mortgages. Additionally, the cost of materials is likely higher when building a new home than it was when an existing home was built (unless it’s a very new one). You’re also paying for all new appliances, finishes, permits, inspections, and connections for water, gas, and electricity.
Yes, most states require home remodeling contractors to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed home remodeling contractor could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
The best time of year to remodel your home is late winter and early spring when fewer homeowners are thinking about projects and pros are more available. Also consider the type of remodel you want and plan ahead as much as possible. For example, the summer is a great time of year to update your fireplace, but winter is a better option for fixing foundations and building room additions.
