"AJC Home Services was here this morning about 8:30 to cut down 12 very tall Evergreen trees. I watched them do this and it was very interesting to see the whole process. The 2 gentlemen were professional, hard working and thorough. They had them all cut down along with the clean-up in under 90 minutes. "About average. Some shoddy work that had to be corrected, but all in all ok. Could not get them to respond to a tub repair. Mike and staff kept putting it off and then would not return a call. After about 2 years, I contacted the tub people and the technical people sent me the part and told me how to install the heater and pump. I ended up hiring someone to take out the tile to get to the parts that needed repair. I still have not grouted the tile back in as am waiting to see if it works properly. All in all, we were marginally satisfied with the job, but follow up service did not exist. The promises and dodging of phone calls got old. I finally gave up."

Furring strips, thin strips of wood or metal, are not always required for ceiling drywall installation. If the ceiling surface is even and in good condition, drywall can be directly attached to the ceiling joists using screws. However, furring strips become essential when dealing with irregular surfaces or when additional insulation or soundproofing is needed. They create a level substrate for attaching the drywall. Ultimately, the decision to use furring strips depends on the condition of the existing ceiling and the specific requirements of the project.

Water-damaged drywall should almost always be replaced. Not only does it look bad, it’s a breeding ground for toxic mold. Even if you think the area is dry and there’s no active leak, the only way to be sure is to cut out the damaged area and see for yourself.

The amount of drywall you need for a 1,000-square-foot basement depends on the ceiling height, angles, number of doors and windows, and more. To find the wall square footage, multiply the width and height of each wall, minus any gaps from windows or doors, and add the totals together. You’ll also need enough drywood nails or screws to install the drywall correctly.

Generally, shower walls should not be installed over drywall because of the moisture issues this can cause. If you’re using a direct-to-stud shower kit, you need to remove the drywall before you can do the installation.

However, if you’re using a glue-up shower kit or stall, you can glue the shower walls directly to drywall. Be sure to install a moisture-resistant drywall or waterproof cement board.

You can prevent air leaks and sagging by gluing a drywall ceiling. However, not every drywall job is a good fit for Sheetrock adhesive, and many pros say ceilings are one of those cases. When you place them properly, drywall screws make ceiling Sheetrock part of your home’s structural support system. 

Adding glue won’t increase the strength of the drywall, and it can make it much harder for you to remove and replace damaged drywall. Adhesive can bridge gaps, though, and it can keep temperature-controlled air from escaping or entering through the ceilings, making rooms more energy efficient.
