"The guys who did the windows for our new house were amazing. Professional, on time, and the windows are fantastic. The price was reasonable compared to other options. So glad we chose this company! The installation crew was super friendly and funny."

"James did an excellent job installing 6 interior doors and a step/platform in my garage. He removed all of the old doors and disposed of them and cleaned up around the area where he was working when he was finished.I would call him again if I have any projects in the future."

"Although kitchen cabinet work was my most recent project, I have used Chuck Milliman, Jr. over the past year for numerous other projects involved in the rehab of my 106 yr old house. He has placed/ framed in a new awning window in a bedroom, adding cedar shingles to the outside as needed, as well as placed and framed a window, where there was none, in my dining room. He has structurally stabilized my front porch along with replacing tongue-and-groove decking and helped with much smaller jobs of adding locks and door adjustments. No matter the job, his workmanship has always been exceptional and his pricing per project has always been fair and competitive. My cabinet project consisted of removal and repair/rebuild of my kitchen cabinets due to years of water damage. He also needed to replace part of the sub floor due to the same water damage. He has also been very helpful to refer me as needed to his long list of recommended colleagues for other projects. I trust his work and professionalism and will continue to use his expertise whenever needed. I highly recommend Chuck Milliman, Jr. and Milliman and Son Builders for any home improvement project."

"Joe and his crew did a major renovation on our master bathroom and a more minor update to our kids bathroom. Overall we were happy with the outcome, with some reservations that keep us from giving an A grade. The good: 1) Price and value were very good. We were happy with the extent of work done for the price paid, and all additions that came up in the course of the job were priced fairly. No complaints here. 2) Quality of the tiling and plumbing was good. 3) Joe and his crew were thoughtful. Since both upstairs bathrooms were being done at the same time, they ended up removing and reinstalling the hall bath toilet several times over the course of the work so that we would have an upstairs toilet to use in the evening. 4) Joe and his crew were easy to work with and friendly in all our dealings. The not-so-good: 1) Paint and drywall. It's fairly obvious where new or repaired drywall was needed in the master bath...just could have been a better job overall in drywall/painting. Also, wall paint was slopped numerous places onto door trim or other trim pieces; most of that was fixed at my request, but seems it should have been neater to begin with. Also, the spot behind the toilet tank in the hall bath was not painted despite my pointing it out 2 or 3 times; while it's not easily visible, it just isn't professional. 2) A mistake was made in installing the vanity in the kids bathroom; they failed to realize a 1" spacer was called for at the wall, resulting in an almost 2" overhang of the vanity top at the other end. I accepted it because fixing it would have required drilling new (additional) holes in the vanities for all the plumbing, which wasn't ideal either...I made the less bad of two bad choices. It's not terrible, but it's not right either. 3) General cleanup was rather poor. We regularly found nails and or screws on the floor at the end of the day, and several 2x4's with nails sticking out were left in my garage at the end of the job, along with numerous drawers from the original vanities which should have been removed."

Doors questions, answered by experts

WD-40 can be used on squeaky door hinges, but it is generally considered a temporary, short-term solution rather than a long-term fix. While it can silence a squeak in a pinch by breaking down rust and grime, it is not a true lubricant, as it contains only a small amount of lubricating oil that evaporates quickly. Using WD-40 alone may lead to the squeak returning and can attract dirt and dust, potentially causing more wear on the hinge over time. For a more effective and lasting solution, it is recommended to first use WD-40 to clean the hinge, then wipe it clean. Afterward, apply a dedicated lubricant such as silicone spray, white lithium grease, a metal or plastic lubricant, or an oil-based product like petroleum jelly.

You can use a variety of wood to build a barn door, but the most common options include 1-by boards and 2-by boards for the backing and the decorative boards on the front of the door. Softwoods like pine will save you some money and should hold up well, while hardwoods like maple and oak will stand up to more wear and tear. You could also build the backer out of plywood to minimize the cuts you need to make. Whatever you decide on, make sure the width of the wood is compatible with the mounting brackets you buy.

Yes, but adding a deadbolt to some door materials, like steel, may make installation a little bit trickier. For these materials, you will want to hire a locksmith to do the work for you, but be aware that they may charge an additional fee of $25 to $50 or more.

The average fiberglass door that you purchase from your local door company or home improvement store will last around 20 to 40 years, so fiberglass doors are considered durable compared to other door materials. When properly maintained, it's not unheard of for a fiberglass door to last up to 80 years.

In general, keyless door locks are considered safe, and their security depends on the type and quality of the lock. They cannot be picked like a traditional lock and often include added features like biometric access, PIN codes, and smartphone connectivity, which can make them more secure. However, they are not without risks. Potential vulnerabilities include hacking for Wi-Fi-connected models, battery failure, power outages, and technical malfunctions. To maximize security, it is important to choose a reliable brand, stay on top of software updates, and perform regular maintenance. While the risks are different, keyless locks are not considered more dangerous than traditional locks.
