"He did an excellent job. He found brick that is a close match to our house which was built in 1955. When he was done everything was cleaned up. The workmanship on laying the brick is excellent."

"I was extremely happy with response to my inquiry if needing work done, explaining what needed to be done, working with me to schedule a date/time to complete the work. Not only was the initial project done but a last minute request for some masonry repair on some loose foundation blocks was also done. My fireplace mantle looks great and they were very professional and friendly. I would highly recommend to family, friends and neighbors."

"My old chimney needed some repair, a new cap, and a good cleaning due to normal wear and tear after many years. Some of the bricks were falling apart and the chimney cap was rusted and deteriorating. My neighbor referred me to the Godfrey Bros. because he had used them previously and said they did a great job at a great price. I gave the owners (Cody and Colton) a call and set up an appointment with them. They came out and did an inspection and took some measurements on their first visit. They arrived when said they would and worked diligently. After they took the measurements, they had to order the chimney cap. The cap arrived a couple days later, and they came out and did their work. My chimney looks so much better now, and I can't wait to use my fireplace this winter. After all was said and done, I was very impressed with the quality of work and professionalism of the Godfrey Bros. They were very respectful of my property and my time and did a great job. They explained the process and what I should expect with their services. As for costs, the cleaning was $125, the cap was $150, and the repair work was $300. Thanks guys!! I would recommend you to friends/family any time, and I will be calling you when we are ready to have our air ducts cleaned. A+ work"

"Lane Maurer was the consummate professional in repairing my brick chimney and brick fireplace. The job was unique because the tuck pointing needed could not be easily reached. I have a 100 year old Tudor home with a clay tile roof. Lane took his time to thoroughly understand how to best do the job. He correctly made the decision to rent a 87 foot lift. This allowed him to access all four sides of my chimney and fireplace without touching my roof. Wow! Before he started the work he made sure the grout color would match the existing mortar on my home. Which was extremely important to my wife and I. He carefully ground out the old mortar on all four sides of my chimney and fireplace. He was very smart to vacuum the dust from the grinding so it didn?t make a mess everywhere. His tuck pointing work was very meticulous. He was also very careful not to drop any new mortar on my clay tile roof. His cleanup after he was done was impeccable. Incredible job Lane!"

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Plan to schedule fireplace service annually, especially given the extended six-month heating season in Bloomington. Watch for climate-driven wear like flaking bricks, cracked mortar joints, or a deteriorating chimney crown caused by frequent freeze-thaw cycles. Additionally, book an inspection after severe spring storms or high-wind events. Homeowners in older neighborhoods must also remain attentive to deteriorating clay flue liners, which require prompt professional attention to maintain a safe environment.

Helpful?

You should combine fireplace service with other home upgrades to streamline your projects. Scheduling chimney maintenance alongside your fall HVAC tune-up in late summer helps avoid seasonal backlogs. Additionally, coordinating chimney flashing repairs with roofing work prevents duplicate labor and minimizes roof traffic. If you plan to install a gas insert, pairing it with broader weatherization upgrades in your IL home consolidates municipal permit inspections and improves overall heating efficiency.

Helpful?

Completing fireplace service directly boosts your home's resale appeal in the local market. Buyers in central IL value functional, well-maintained heating features. Proactive maintenance resolves cracked flues or damaged fireboxes before they become negotiating obstacles during real estate transactions. Furthermore, state law requires sellers to disclose known chimney defects. Addressing these issues early eliminates required disclosure items and prevents downward adjustments during the appraisal process, ensuring a smoother sale.

Helpful?

After completing fireplace service, verify your carbon monoxide detectors are placed correctly and functioning properly, as IL law requires them in all homes. You should also perform a test burn before Bloomington's cold winter weather arrives to confirm proper draft and combustion. Finally, schedule any required municipal permit inspections and notify your homeowner's insurance provider about significant repairs or wood-to-gas conversions to keep your policy updated.

Helpful?

When comparing quotes for fireplace service in Bloomington, watch out for contractors who pressure you into immediate, extensive repairs without providing written documentation of the damage. You must also avoid professionals who fail to mention required municipal permits or offer vague inspection descriptions. Finally, always demand proof of liability insurance and verify that any professional handling gas appliance work holds the appropriate state gas piping credentials to ensure safe results.
