"The workers and office staff were easy to talk to, well informed, courteous , and efficient. They performed a thorough inspection. Recommended and installed a stainless liner and cap for the furnace flue and a new damper on the fireplace flue. Their price was better than previous quotes and even set up a partial payment plan. I am very pleased with the work they did."

"I was extremely happy with response to my inquiry if needing work done, explaining what needed to be done, working with me to schedule a date/time to complete the work. Not only was the initial project done but a last minute request for some masonry repair on some loose foundation blocks was also done. My fireplace mantle looks great and they were very professional and friendly. I would highly recommend to family, friends and neighbors."

"We have Frontpoint at two houses. We had been looking for ways to cut our monthly expenses (Frontpoint is approx. $100 per month total), so I called them to find out what I could do. They informed me that I was under contract for another year, and that I cannot get out of the contract without an early termination fee that is equal to the cost of the service. I'm a little disappointed, because the upfront cost of the system was very expensive ($1,000+) for each house, so it seems odd that I would get sucked into this contract. Nevertheless, I forgot that I signed up for this with them. My calendar is marked for the day that my service ends, and I will be switching to a company that charges about half of what they do. They have OK customer service and are very responsive, but the wireless system had some issues with reception in my house due to a fireplace, and then they didn't want to work with me to get that resolved. They're OK, but I can't really recommend them."

"Lane Maurer was the consummate professional in repairing my brick chimney and brick fireplace. The job was unique because the tuck pointing needed could not be easily reached. I have a 100 year old Tudor home with a clay tile roof. Lane took his time to thoroughly understand how to best do the job. He correctly made the decision to rent a 87 foot lift. This allowed him to access all four sides of my chimney and fireplace without touching my roof. Wow! Before he started the work he made sure the grout color would match the existing mortar on my home. Which was extremely important to my wife and I. He carefully ground out the old mortar on all four sides of my chimney and fireplace. He was very smart to vacuum the dust from the grinding so it didn?t make a mess everywhere. His tuck pointing work was very meticulous. He was also very careful not to drop any new mortar on my clay tile roof. His cleanup after he was done was impeccable. Incredible job Lane!"

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

The cost to replace a chimney damper ranges from $160 to $520, depending on the type of damper and the complexity of the installation. If you're looking to repair an existing damper, expect to pay around $100 and $225, depending on the extent of the damage and your location. Hiring a professional ensures proper installation or repair, which can help maintain energy efficiency and prevent drafts, making it a worthwhile investment for long-term savings.

Costs depend on stove type, venting complexity, and additional features like hearth pads or decorative finishes.

When your fireplace is not in use for longer periods of time, such as over the summer, you can keep smells at bay by spraying either a commercial fireplace deodorizing product or a blend of one part distilled white vinegar to one part water around the walls of the fireplace.

Or, you can place a container of charcoal inside the fireplace to absorb odors. Just be sure to remove it before it’s time to start using the fireplace again.

Most homeowners put a layer of compact sand or gravel at the bottom of their firepit, but you can also choose more decorative options like fire-resistant paving stones, bricks, or fire pit glass. Dirt by itself can even work, but other materials do a better job of spreading the heat around.

To reset an electric fireplace, first shut the unit off using the control panel or remote control. Make sure the unit is entirely shut down, then unplug it from the power outlet. Wait five to 10 minutes, then plug the fireplace back in and turn it on. This process should reset the electric fireplace. After resetting, make sure to set the thermostat, timer, and other programmable settings to suit your preferences.
