Customers say: Quick response

"The four support pillars on our porch were wood. They constantly needed painting. Gilberto Masonry redid them in stone. The result was stunning, we are very happy with how they look. While many home porches have the supports bricked. Stone adds a very unique look. I highly Recommend Gilberto Masonry."

"There was no actual work done at the point, because prior to having them come out I had Perma-Seal attempt to solve the issue by apply a plastic wrap underneath below ground level which they told me it would fix my issue (It did not, lost money). I had photos while workers were digging in that project and it displayed a Pier stabilizer connected to my house. The tech at USW was completely honest about the guarantee their seal would be able to 100% get behind that Pier stabilizer, so they explained that drain tiles would be a potential next option."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Painted exterior brick does not usually need sealing. Brick is a porous material, so you don’t want to apply a sealant that could trap moisture inside the bricks and cause erosion and structural damage. The risk of moisture-induced damage after sealing is higher in colder climates where trapped moisture can expand if it freezes. On the other hand, it makes sense to seal really old brick or kitchen backsplashes, where moisture from cooking can weaken the brick.

In most cases, painting your brick house is a fine idea that can open up new aesthetic possibilities. However, the paint can slightly shorten the life span of brick, especially if moisture gets trapped underneath the paint layer. Once you paint, you’ll have to keep up with maintenance to avoid flaking and blisters.

Yes, as long as the cut is clean and the brick remains structurally sound, you can reuse it. Reusing brick is especially common for landscaping, edging, and small masonry repairs. Just make sure to file down any sharp edges before handling or installing it.

Yes, you can limewash surfaces other than brick. Plaster, stone, stucco, and concrete can all also be limewashed. Any porous surface that will absorb the wash is a good candidate for limewash, although it won’t help much with waterproofing. If you choose to limewash over paint, you’ll need to prep before applying it to avoid a powdery, chalky finish. Shiny surfaces like metal or glass can’t absorb limewash, so it’s not suited for these.

It’s called cobblestone because it’s made of stones that are “cobbed” together. A cob is a term that refers to rounded lumps. Originally, cobblestone streets were made from pebbles and stones gathered from riverbeds that had been rounded over time by the passage of water. The term has nothing to do with a cobbler, which is the term for someone who makes and fixes shoes.
