"I can’t recommend Joe enough. He was was fast, reliable, and made sure the job was done right (fixing mistakes from a previous plumber I used). It is hard finding good contractors these days and I will be using this company for any plumbing needs in the future."

"Jim & Rob handled the service. When they realized that they were running late, they called early on to let me know. They were a completely in sink team. They were efficient, knowledgable and extremely courteous. My father had owned his own plumbing company post WWII, and was one of the first licensed plumbers in the state of Illinois; accordingly, I watched & had many plumbing questions regarding the install. Jim & Rob patiently shared their expertice. High recommend. A great experience."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

The harsh winters in Barrington create a high risk for frozen pipes in uninsulated crawl spaces and garages. You must install all exterior plumbing below the 42-inch IL frost line to prevent freeze damage. Spring thaws and heavy summer storms also increase flooding risks, making sump pumps and backflow prevention essential for your basement. Schedule underground plumbing projects outside the freezing November through March window for the best results.

Helpful?

You must inspect and test your sump pump before the spring thaw to handle high water tables. Winterizing your exterior plumbing and irrigation lines by October prevents severe freeze damage. Annual water heater flushing removes mineral buildup from the municipal supply. Older Barrington homes require periodic drain cleaning to clear scale from aging cast iron pipes. Finally, IL mandates annual testing for backflow prevention assemblies on all connected irrigation systems.

Helpful?

Functional plumbing work, like rerouting drain lines or replacing a water heater, requires a building permit and inspections from the village. Purely cosmetic updates, such as swapping a faucet, do not require permits. However, cosmetic updates in older Barrington homes reveal hidden functional issues like corroded galvanized supply lines. Discolored water points to aging iron pipes, turning a simple aesthetic fix into a necessary functional repair for your IL home.

Helpful?

Knowing your water source and sewer connection type is critical, as unincorporated Barrington properties rely on private wells and septic systems. Your home’s age also dictates the scope of your plumbing work. Homes built between the 1950s and 1980s feature galvanized steel or cast iron pipes prone to corrosion. Identify whether your property sits in an IL flood zone, which directly impacts the design of below-grade drains and ejector systems.

Helpful?

Slab-on-grade construction makes accessing drain lines difficult and requires extensive concrete cutting. If you have a finished basement over original cast iron drains, you will need to open ceilings or walls for repairs. Long vertical vent stacks in multi-story Barrington homes complicate rerouting fixtures. Additionally, properties with private wells and septic systems must follow strict IL setback rules, which restrict where you place new plumbing lines or home additions.
