"Starting with the estimate (which was comparable to the other estimates I got), Gibran spent more time discussing exactly what I wanted and needed: the old walk was narrow, did I want it widened; squared off or rounded out where it met the garage slab; raising the back walk slightly to eliminate the extra, shallow step at each end; and most usefully, how to work around the 100 year old catalpa, that had lifted and broken the old walk, between it and the house. We ended up adding a curve to the walk, just by the tree, giving it extra space without disturbing the existing tulip bed on the other side of the walk along the house. He and his crew worked quickly and neatly, and did a very nice job. The new walks meet the city sidewalk and garage slab evenly, the curves are smooth, the tree has room, the tulip bed and ivy along the house weren’t disturbed, and now it’s much less of a pain to shovel snow than it used to be! As a bonus, landscaping was not part of the contract, but Gibran found a source of black dirt for us, and when there was a delay (while waiting for the city inspector) after the forms were in place, he and his crew spread the dirt needed to regrade the yard for us, rather than just sit around. "This was a job that should have been 2 days. All concrete was paid on 4/30/25. He did not start the job until 5/5/25. I was concerned about how long it took Roy to start the work. On the start day 2 of his family members showed up and 20 minutes later Roy showed up with another family member. Then Roy left taking 2 of his guy and leaving 1 guy to work. The guy that stayed did the grinding on one side of my home. Roy came back at 6 to pick the worker up. This guy said he was a cousin just helping him out. The next day there was a different guy he brought to my home. Another cousin who also advised me Roy called him to help out and he is visiting from Atlanta for 2 weeks he dropped him off at my home around 9 am and didn't come back to get him until 10 that night. This person the rest of the grinding at my home for 2 days removing the old mortar. On day 5 or 6 there was a different man named Chester and once again Roy dropped him off and left. This is the guy who was doing the actual tuck pointing. From day 5 until day day 15 this man was dropped off and the whole time he was here there was little to no work completed each day. In the beginning I assumed he moved slow because he was older, however as I watched him more over the next few days I noticed he couldn't keep his eyes open as I talked to him. This guy would nod off in the middle of a conversation and i asked him if he was ok his reply was its the weather. There was 1 particular day he was sleeping on a bucket in front of my house waiting for Roy to come back and mix the mortar for him. I advised him he couldn't be in front like this and I offered him some water and said he could sit in the back yard. Every morning Roy would drop this man off and leave. I watched him sit in my driveway for 2 hours doing nothing and he would do about an hour of work and leave. This took place everyday. This is why this 2 day project turned into a 15 day nightmare. My neighbours also noticed he would walk across the street and stand there for 20 minutes and nod off or leave again. So basically this was a drug addict that he had working on my home. After day 10 explained to Roy once this part of my home is done I didn't want to do anything more work going forward. pointing is done at the bottom of my home, I didn't want to do anything else with my home since deposit that I gave him for the full amount of the work that should have been done was enough to cover the tuck pointing around the bottom perimeter of my home, Made it very clear to Roy that i did not want to move forward with anymore work because stated he wanted to bring in some guys to start on my front porch and i advised him no more work will be done and i have a video of me telling him this. On Saturday 5/17/25 Roy thought I was not going to be home. And as usual he dropped Chester off and left. Well Chester sat in my driveway for about 2 hours he didn't do any work or attempt to put back my bricks that were removed and he left at about 11. Around 12:30 I was hearing some bumping and banging on my roof so I looked outside and saw a different guy messing with my chimney. I asked the man. What is he doing on top of my roof messing with the chimney, and he advised me that he was the tuck pointing guy. This man came on my property without my knowledge and he didn't ring my bell to advise me he was going on my roof. I told him to get off of my roof and as far as I'm concerned no one should be up here messing with my chimney. When I asked him where Roy was, he said he did not know who Roy is. I said well, who sent you over here. He told me a guy named Mike asked him who is Mike? He said that is the guy that he works for. Roy was trying to be slick because he thought I was not at home so he tried to start another project and hit me with another bill when i made it clear to him i did not want to move forward with any other projects as we discussed. I've never heard of this Mike person before. So I instructed the man to get off of my roof. And to get the letter off of my gutters, at that time someone named Mike shows up that I have never seen before and he said Roy asked him to find someone to do the tuck pointing. I then asked the guy who was on my roof. Where is Chester. His reply was no one was here when he arrived. 30 minutes later, Roy shows up and I told him why do you have someone doing work on my chimney, when I clearly told you I was not doing anymore projects. I advised Roy the bottom of my home is not complete so how are you starting on another project. He called himself being slick and was going to hit me with another bill. I also told him that he's been at my house way too long. Doing a two day job that has taken almost 16 days. Roy had Chester remove 2 layers of my bottom bricks that sat stacked up in my driveway for 5 days strait. The bricks that he removed from the bottom part of my home, sat in my driveway for 5 days.We got rain in my in Chicago and it rained in my house.I also called Roy to tell him I got water coming in my basement from the bricks that were removed 3 days ago and his reply was OK and what do you want me to do about it. Roy never called me or sent me a text to tell me that someone will come on my roof to do anything which he did not have permission to do. The person that was on my roof never ring my doorbell. They came on my property without me knowing anything about it. He didn't know who Roy was and I didn't know who Mike was. This is totally unacceptable. This whole project has been a nightmare and Roy hire drug addicts to do the work in my house. This Chester guy said that he was sick, but all my neighbours noticed how he would leave and walk back and forth across the street. They watched him everyday and would contact me asking what is he doing walking back and forth. the day that the project was finished. I stayed in my backyard watching him and I noticed that he would leave and come back. He would leave and come back. He did this about 5 times this day. On 5/19/25 the project was done and it looked horrible. When I walked down my driveway there was another young man that i had never seen before with a runny nose. When they all were leaving, I asked Roy is this the finishing product? He said yes. I also asked him about the clean up and his reply was I will call you. So all this trash and garbage was left which should have been cleaned the same day. The next morning Roy called to say he could not come by to clean and to put his stuff under my shed. At this time I knew if I waited on him this trash would be in my driveway for another week or more so I got up and cleaned it myself which took me about 6 hours to complete. On Saturday 5/17 Roy tried to be slick and thought I would be home on that Saturday and he sent someone to my house without my knowledge and without informing me. I would also like to mention he had another client yelling at him about a job he was doing and the man said "verbatim " I paid you all this money and you did not finish this job. Roy had him on speaker phone and now i see why he was cursing and yelling through the phone. Because by the end of this whole fiasco, I felt the same way. I am requesting $3800 of my money returned. Because this is the amount that is going to cost to have someone come and redo what he hired drug addicts to do. I will provide pictures and surveillance videos of each day as well as the conversation that took place."

He is very professional listens to your concerns He is on time, he has you inspect his work to make sure you are satisfied when he is finished in case there was something else to be done. He does prep work before starting and makes sure everything is cleaned up before leaving. He is easy to talk to and polite My chimney looks great thank you."

"They were a great company to work with... friendly, courteous, and accommodating. I had a front porch leaning away from the house (from settling), and a walkway leaning toward the house. They patiently answered all my questions, and did a professional job. The new porch and walkway look great and I'm very happy with the results. They told me to apply water to the new cement for a week to prevent cracks. I had never heard of this before, so I'm glad they mentioned it. My only regret (which was my fault, not theirs) is that I didn't put tarps over my groundcover and part of the lawn to avoid having to pick out small pieces of cement. I don't think any contractor does this, so again my fault, but just something to consider for anyone having work done and is picky like me."

"I met with crew boss of said company (Cesar Garcia) for an initial consultation and to get estimate price for it. He emailed me saying that they would be putting a top coat on the next day & all would look great after. He project on 10/19/24. We discussed work I wanted done & my expectation that the cement used in the project would be matched to the existing color of rest of concrete as much as possible. He told me he could get the project done in 2 days & that the finished work would have my porch looking brand new. His estimate that day came to $2500. I wrote him a check for $1250 that date as down payment. The work was started on 10/24/24 after Garcia told me that additional material was needed to uplift the concrete at the top of the steps. He told me "This will just cost you just a little more than we discussed". Later that evening he emailed me saying that I would be charged another $600, which to me was way more than a little more. I replied with a request that we negotiate a smaller price once the work was done but got no reply.On 10/25/24 I viewed the 1st part of the job & emailed Garcia of my concern that the cement was discolored and looked like small pebbles were on it & he sent me a picture of another project he did with the top coat on and told me my project would look smooth and professional as in the picture after the top coat dried. On 10/26/24 his crew put the top coat on as I was at work. Once it was dry I emailed Garcia on 10/28/24 informing him that the top coat was too dark and that it also had scrape marks, discolorations & areas where the top coat did not take & you could see the lighter color of the older cement showing through. He ended up coming to my home and agreed to have his main crew guy come to my home again so the top coat could be changed from charcoal to a grey color to better match the existing concrete & to also ensure that the finished project would be free of scrape marks, cracks and discolorations, again telling me it would look brand new. His crew guy came out and told me he was only going to fill in some cracks and would not be changing the color. He became argumentative when I told him this was not what was agreed upon between Garcia & I and he told me not to talk to him further. He stated that he was leaving & he called Garcia at my request. Garcia talked with him & after it was agreed that a redo on the cement work would be done. The main crew guy came to my home on 11/2/24 to change the color of the topcoat and to get the finished project with the cement to look evenly colored, smooth and free of cracks or swirl marks as Garcia told me would occur. I asked the crew guy to put protectant down so the cement would not get on my freshly painted porch. He looked at me and rolled his eyes. As he worked I told him that I thought the pressure of the machine he used had loosened some of the cement around the brick under the porch. He said this was not caused from his work. I emailed Garcia so as to have him come out and take a look. I The main crew guy then became irate and he stated to me "There is something very wrong with you". "You are crazy". "You don't know what the **** you want or are talking about." Do not talk to me anymore". He left my home shortly after.spraying sealant on the porch. I informed Garcia via phone of the event. He arrived at my home about 10 minutes later. He apologized for the crew guy's behavior and requested rest of the payment which ended up amounting to $1750.00 I told him I preferred to wait until the sealant was totally dry before paying the balance due. He stated I did not have anything to worry about as the cement would dry and look brand new as previously mentioned. He stated he wanted his payment that date as he would be leaving town for 2 weeks to work on other projects. He stated he would come and check on the final result at my home later that evening. I wrote him a check for the $1750. and he left. I was doing yard work until near dark & he failed to return. Once the sealant had dried the next day there are clearly visible bubbles, cracks, discolorations and pock marks on the surface along with some cement that got on parts of the brick around the porch that has dried. It looks unfinished and unprofessional-not like the picture I was sent. The work done on the settled part of the porch and the empty area between the top step was done well though I emailed Garcia evening of 11/2/24 and told him about the problem & that if I did not hear from him by 11/5/24 I would be filing a complaint with Angi, the Better Business bureau and possibly seek an attorney but he failed to respond. I want the cement to be worked on so that the surfaces are even in terms of coloration and with a smooth surface, free of cracks, swirl and brushmarks- like new as Garcia told me it would appear. Time frame: Before the weather gets too cold or winter sets in. Alternatives: I am not asking for a refund. I prefer that Angi send another cement specialist company to my home to complete the project with the cost to be payed by Exclusive Masonry & Construction since they have not been able to complete the job without leaving the cement with the problems mentioned above after 2 attempts and the main crew guy has been so disrespectful to me. Very stressful to me having to deal with this situation as I want my home to look great and saved up for a while to pay for this project. 2nd choice alternative: To have Angi send another cement specialist company to my home so as to give me a cost to have the project finished and for me to receive a refund from my payment to Exclusive Masonry and Construction only for the amount to cover the costs of getting the job done by that company."

"Good work in general; our basement no longer sees water for over 3 years now, which is the most important thing. But there were some real issues: The biggest issue is that USW did not adhere to local electrical codes, and did not arrange for a final inspection of the project. So we didn't find out that it wasn't to code until years later, and now it's a big hassle and minor cost to fix and get the permits. Ask your local gov yourself what you need to do for permits and inspections; don't rely on USW! USW said they would seal any foundation cracks found along the way; they didn't do this until I bugged the warranty dept about it (but they did do it eventually). USW sent someone out for the "annual checkup"... over 2 years after the install. It's a good thing they (eventually) did, because they discovered the backup battery wasn't charging. Now I know to check this stuff better myself. Prices also vary wildly and are kind of negotiable (I'd give more detail but I'm out of space)"
