"Oliver and his partner were more than excellent. He was honest with his assessment and gave me a quote right away (not the cheapest, but it had the most value based on his experience/knowledge - HIS BID WAS VERY FAIR!!!). We talked with 4 vendors before deciding on New Age Masonry and couldn't be happier with our decision to hire them. We have been burned in the past with other contractors, so I am always on edge when dealing with them, but Oliver gives me a new reason to relax on that a bit. Please give him an opportunity, even if he isn't the lowest bid, because you will not be disappointed in his work. Very, very satisfied customer."

"Jon and his team were outstanding. They were extremely professional with quick and effective communication. His level of expertise was evident in both his scoping of the job and in his work. When I asked for additional repairs, beyond the original scope, Jon was able to fit this extra work in for a much lower price than I expected. All the work done was top quality, and their cleanup at the end was commendable. I enthusiastically recommend JPL Masonry!"

"If you are looking for standard, run-of-the-mill brickwork, I am sure there are several good masons around. But, if you are looking for true restoration professionals with a comprehensive understanding of their craft, capable of tackling challenging and difficult projects while producing results which will easily exceed your expectations – you need to hire Henry and Dennis. Their extensive industry experience shows in their attention to detail, knowledge of materials and techniques, and (most importantly for your peace-of-mind) the ability to apply their skills to make years of masonry deterioration and damage virtually disappear. What they can achieve is as much art as craft, all with a straightforward, honest, no-nonsense approach which carries forward throughout the project. Whether you need to rescue a historically-significant structure, or just a gem you call your own, I’m convinced you cannot do better than H.M. Staggers."

"I had a new cap, the top six courses of brick replaced, and the rest tuck-pointed on my fireplace chimney. The chimney looks new, the worksite looks as though they were never here. Hardworking, respectable guys who would always take time to answer questions. Beautiful work at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended."

"I needed my chimney rebuilt from the roof line up. I picked a brick that was not available so they chose for me and it was a perfect match to my roof and siding. The team was very polite and they cleaned up everything very nicely. Would recommend them to family & friends."

"Atlas did a good job and followed up when I thought there was a problem.  (The problem wasn't the foundation.)  I would recommend dealing with Chris Heintz, one of the owners.  IMHO, the other owner, Marty, is a horse's patoot.  He's the reason for the lower scores.  Chris did a masterful job of explaining the issues to me and even offered some suggestions to my contractor."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Stone veneer siding is approximately four times less expensive than stone because it's made of concrete and aggregates instead of natural stone. But veneer looks like real stone, is easier to install, and acts as a great, durable siding option.

Yes, you can technically use a pressure washer to remove paint from brick, but it comes with a significant risk of damaging the brick surface. A high-power pressure washer can be fast but may leave the brick looking unsightly. The recommended method is to first apply a chemical paint stripper, following the product's instructions, and then use a stiff metal bristle brush or a pressure washer on a low-pressure setting to remove the loosened paint. Due to the risk of damage, it is often best to hire a professional who can use low-stress methods.

The exact cost of bricks depends on the type and size of the bricks you use for your project. Generally, standard clay bricks cost between $350 and $850 for a thousand bricks, or an average of $550. Brick veneer costs around the same for materials but is easier to install than solid bricks, so you’ll save on labor by choosing this option.

Masonry uses units like bricks, cement blocks, and stone with mortar between them. Mortar is generally made of sand and a type of cement. Examples of masonry include the brick or stone on a house, chimney, or freestanding wall. Concrete is a mixture of water, sand, stone aggregate, and other materials, and is poured into forms or moldings. Types of concrete applications include driveways, garage and basement floors, and poured concrete walls in basements and crawl spaces.

It is possible, albeit a lot slower, to break up a rock using water. You would do this by freezing and thawing the water. You could create some initial holes or cracks in the rock, then pour water into the cracks or holes and allow them to freeze (so it's best to do this in winter or in colder climates). Since water expands when it freezes, this puts pressure on the inside of the rock and causes it to crack. You could continue to pour more water in and let it freeze to continue to break up the rock.
