"The crew was vey careful bringing down the branches. They successfully avoided any damage to the roof, fence and my neighbors duck hutch. They did a great job cleaning up after the trees were down. When they were done, the little boy next door invited them over to pet their two ducks. They were considerate and personable. If I need tree services in the future they will be my first choice."

"Excellent service. Price was fair, work crew was prompt and professional. Removed large 5 trees and a couple of them were leaning badly, it was a lot of work. Very pleased with the care they took to avoid damaging the yard and other trees in the work area."

"North Idaho Tree Works was recommended to us by our neighbor who was really happy with Josh's work, and we can't recommend Josh and his team enough! Super respectful, professional, fair, and really high quality work. Josh removed 6 trees from our front yard in one day (1 that had died and 5 that were growing into our home's foundation). At least 2 of those trees were not easy work, as they were leaning back over our roof and required careful attention and expertise to get them down without damaging our roof. Josh and his team got all 6 trees down without issue, and removed all of the branches and debris, and left any wood we asked to keep for firewood. We also had 3 young fruit trees in our yard very close to the large trees being removed, and Josh and his crew were very mindful to work around them. Really grateful for the work done by North Idaho Tree works. Can't recommend them enough, and we will definitely call them again for any trimming or tree work in the future. Thanks again Josh!"

"We found everyone working at this company and on our property to be reliable, pleasant and knowledgeable. They did a beautiful job to create new planters on our property, replace trees, expand the pavers area on our porch and, in short, to handle the work in a very professional and capable way. The plan to hire them again in a few months to do additional work."

"They got the job done promptly. Of all the companies that gave me estimates the owner was the most thorough and explaining a variety of options fencing. They always came on the days and times they said they would and the fence looks great!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

The felling notch you make before you make the final cut will determine which way the tree will fall. The cut will be in a wedge or triangle, and the tree will fall from the highest point of the triangle. You can use this, as well as the process described above, to estimate where a tree will fall.

Palm trees are unique in that their roots don't grow straight down; they grow horizontally. Typically, palm tree roots go down between 12 and 36 inches deep. The roots grow far and wide from the base of the palm tree to absorb as much water and soil nutrients as possible. In addition, the horizontal roots are also very strong—keeping palm trees stable and helping them sway during storms.

Yes, pruning makes trees stronger because it fosters proper growth, weight distribution, and balance of the crown. By increasing the structural integrity of the tree through pruning, it’s less likely to experience disease, pests, broken limbs, and storm damage. Pruning the right branches and limbs is key to improving a tree’s strength and balance.

Trees are beneficial to the environment and wildlife. If you have an old tree, but it’s healthy, it may be best to avoid cutting it down. However, if it’s showing signs of bug infestation, disease, or is potentially hazardous, then you should contact a tree removal company to cut it down.

If you are unsure whether you should have it removed or not, then speak with an arborist to determine what is best.

Generally, homeowners do not need permission to cut down a tree on their own private property, but there are several exceptions where a permit may be required. You might need a permit if the tree is particularly large, old, or a protected species, such as a heritage tree. Trees located near public property or power lines can also be subject to special rules. Additionally, many local governments and homeowners associations (HOAs) have regulations controlling which trees can be removed to manage an area's appearance or prevent the spread of invasive species. To avoid hefty fines, it is crucial to check with your local government and HOA to determine if a permit is needed before you begin.
