"Needed a next day install of a gravel pad for a shed being delivered and the guys at Sturges came through big time. I?m told this is not what they normally do but they had a little down time due to weather and they knocked it out of the park even with the ground being frozen! Very good price on the work as well. Good guys"

We offer a wide variety of excavation services. From trenching to foundation footings we can get the job done. Our equipment is specialized to work in small spaces and can get into hard to access areas. Our goal is to do the job quickly and efficiently to save the customer money. With more than 25 years of experience operating equipment we can certainly do any job big or small.

"It went great! We had tried to do this project for 2-3 years and could not get return calls or estimates from the contractors we called. Nick retuned calls, got estimates done quickly and got the work scheduled fast! Aaron came and took care of the cottonwood trunks. Aaron and Nick accomplished the digging, grading, dry well and culvert in about two days. Thank you. And the starting point was much more rugged than those pictures FYI."

Specializing in clearing, excavation, and grading. We have the equipment and experience to remove trees, brush, demo, dig trenches, house holes, driveways, and reshape or regrade your property. We love new challenging projects and coming up with unique solutions.

"They got the job done promptly. Of all the companies that gave me estimates the owner was the most thorough and explaining a variety of options fencing. They always came on the days and times they said they would and the fence looks great!"

"This was an emergency project where a branch of our tree fell on neighbors yard on Friday evening. Ralph showed up on Saturday to provide estimate and on Sunday he showed up to clear that branch. The following week the crew removed, chipped, and hauled away the three trees that we decided had to go. All for a price cheaper than competitors. Highly recommended!"

"If you are just needing very basic yard landscaping with grass and a few trees this is landscaper for you. If you are a serious gardener, who knows, explains and gives computer generated plans for planting, Sprinklers and design, I would advise using a professional who will listen and carry out your instructions as directed. The customer service seems good in the beginning but as you ask corrections of what needs fixing or is completed wrong, attitude, pride and youth play into the customer service and repairs. I would not recommend this business."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Yes, many kinds of building permits exist for various projects in and outside your home. Each city sets the permit categories, but they typically cover new construction, alterations, and demolition. For example, you will need a different permit to finish a basement than you would tear down the patio.

You can install exposed solid wood beams for between $6 and $80 per linear foot, but these beams are often decorative if you’re retrofitting an existing home with them. Laminated veneer lumber beams, more commonly called LVL beams, cost $3 to $12 per linear foot, and while they can’t span nearly as long of a distance as steel I-beams, they can provide more open spaces than traditional wooden beams.

Rather than using a common two-by-four piece of wood for a rafter, you probably will use two-by-six, two-by-eight, two-by-ten, or even two-by-twelve boards. Wider lumber is typically a better choice in a larger building as it provides more sturdiness. Some installers may use wider lumber for rafters near the edges of the roof, where the greatest stress occurs, and save money with narrower lumber toward the middle.

Wooden pergolas can last five and 12 years as long as you maintain your pergola. Make sure to clean, stain, and seal wood pergolas every two to three years to protect the wood from insect damage, rot, and decay.

Vinyl or aluminum pergolas can last a lifetime. The only problems you may encounter with these pergola materials are weather-related—heavy rain storms or snowfalls. Check the stability of your pergola every season. You may need to add new supports or replace broken beams on an as-needed basis.

Pergolas have no base structure to hold them up, so it’s necessary to attach them to some type of foundation. Most pergolas require a minimum of at least four concrete footings to keep them solid and stable in the ground. Attaching the pergola to a concrete foundation is an option as well.
