"Gary and his boys did a great job. Showed up on time, worked very hard. Fixing the retaining wall required removing just some huge nasty tree roots. It was not fun, but they worked very hard to get it so the retaining wall could be straight. Appreciate all the work they put in…. I would highly recommend Rock Solid Excavation."

Small jobs welcome

"My project involved moving sprinklers and upgrading emitters, resolving a drainage issue, and spreading 6 yards of 3" rock. Alfredo is knowledgeable, responsive, easy to work with and is devoted to ensuring everything is done on time and "just right". A top-notch company that was a delight to work with."

"Forest Landscaping was great to work with. Erika was very helpful and knowledgeable. What I really appreciate was the fact that they started the job when promised, they cleaned the job site each day, they showed up each day at the scheduled time and finished when promised. They are very professional. We are happy with the landscape and jobs they completed in our back yard."

"What impresses me is not only quality of work, but responsiveness to my calls. JP always returned my calls within minutes. My project was to widen my existing driveway and install a retaining wall. He and his crew always arrived when they said they would. They worked continually and professionally, and cleaned up afterwards. They did a fantastic job and completed it within two days. They were organized, worked hard, and were fun. I highly recommend JP, Mo and their crew."

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can use cinder blocks for many purposes, including retaining walls, foundations, garage walls, and fences. Building a cinder block retaining wall costs between $60 and $200 per linear foot, including materials and professional labor. For a 30-foot-long retaining wall, the cost ranges from $1,800 to $6,000.

Costs range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on size, material, and design complexity.

Proper design and construction prevent erosion and add structural stability to landscapes.

The longevity of flood walls depends on how they were constructed, but most wood, gravel, and cement flood walls last 10 years. While aluminum flood walls may cost far more initially, they can be a good investment as they can last decades and will not be damaged by exposure to the elements.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.
