"They were to start work the week of April 21st and be completed within 10 business days. The individual who hung the drywall did terrible work and the owner of Rhoades drywall had to come and help finish the drywall install. The drywall finish worker came in and taped and mudded and the owner came in and applied texture to the walls. Upon inspection of the work several issues were noted: damage to wires in boxes (insulation torn off many of the wires), a few cosmetics flaws in the walls, and two receptacle boxes completely covered under the drywall. I left a voicemail for Rhoades to let him know that we needed to resolve these issues before I completed payment. Rhoades came and inspected the work and said he would make everything right. They came back and corrected the issues within two days. I paid the remainder of the balance for the agreed-upon price. When I handed over the check Rhoades claimed that the covered receptacles were my fault and that he was going to send me a bill for $300 and if I didn't pay he would put a lien on my house and sue me. The work took a month to complete--not 10 business days as indicated. The workers tracked mud through the house and on the walls and doors--I cleaned this several times. There was food wrappers, a paper plate, and grocery bag stuck between the wall and window frame by one of the workers. There were also several screws, a pen, and a pencil stuck in this same space. They used a space heater I had nearby and smeared it with drywall mud. They left a pile of mud and plastic and tape in the room when they finished."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

The average cost to apply a skip-trowel drywall texture to walls is $1.25 to $2.00 per square foot. Ceilings cost slightly more because of the increased difficulty of working overhead. Additional cost factors include any drywall repairs and removal of existing textures or wallpaper.

You can prevent air leaks and sagging by gluing a drywall ceiling. However, not every drywall job is a good fit for Sheetrock adhesive, and many pros say ceilings are one of those cases. When you place them properly, drywall screws make ceiling Sheetrock part of your home’s structural support system.

Adding glue won’t increase the strength of the drywall, and it can make it much harder for you to remove and replace damaged drywall. Adhesive can bridge gaps, though, and it can keep temperature-controlled air from escaping or entering through the ceilings, making rooms more energy efficient.

It doesn’t matter which way you lay drywall, and you can choose to install it horizontally or vertically depending on the size of the wall and how tall the ceiling is. It’s easier to lay drywall sheets vertically if you have a taller ceiling, but laying sheets horizontally makes it easier to apply joint compound.

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

Yes, any parts of drywall that are wet or overly moist will need to be replaced. Drywall is intended to be dry (it’s in the name, after all.), as excess moisture can lead to mold and mildew and eventually corrode your home’s foundational building pieces. Do regular inspections in your home to make sure all your plumbing is intact and in good condition—this will go a long way toward preventing leaks.
