"Showed up early and was fast, efficient, and was able to fix our condenser after the prior company was unable to do so. Their fees were good, and they actually went out of their way to fix my problem. He informed me of exactly what he found and explained in detail of what would be the best to do to fix my AC unit. I will definitely be using them in the future and have already recommended them to friends. Great job, thank you."

"No Bogus might be the best contractor/service company in Treasure Valley, in any category. I called at 930pm with an emergency situation and Richard was at my place and in the attic within an hour. He diagnosed our situation very thoroughly and very clearly, explained our options and let me make a decision without pressure. Once we opted to have equipment replaced, he got right on ordering and scheduled our install and followup, and he and Josh (his co-owner) came out ON TIME every appointment to get the work done. If you've had any service work done you know how big of a deal it is to not have a 4 hour window but an actual arrival time, and for them to come when they say they will. Throughout the process communication was very clear, they each invited me to view their progress and explain what they were doing each step of the way. At the end of the day, there is nobody else I would ever trust with my HVAC needs. True professionals."

"We had what we thought would be an easy installation of a ceiling fan in our spare bedroom/home office. With the HVAC system also near that space and the position of the fan, they had a lot of challenges that we didn't anticipate. They were very professional in explaining what they encountered, how it might impact our final cost, and what our options were. They were so prompt, courteous, and professional that we now use them for all of our electrical projects and needs including routine maintenance and checks."

Air Conditioning FAQs, answered by experts

There are ways to detect a refrigerant leak with several different testing methods. However, most homeowners can figure out something’s wrong with their AC unit by noticing these common signs:

  • Ice forming on the evaporator coil

  • Water leaks near the AC unit

  • Frequent hissing sounds

  • Increased electric bills

  • Unit takes longer than usual to cool

  • Unit is blowing hot air

Yes, you can build a deck over your outdoor HVAC unit, but you need to leave at least 5 feet of vertical clearance above the unit. If you don’t want your deck to be that high off the ground, you could build a floating deck in another part of your yard—again, as long as you leave at least 4 feet of horizontal space between the deck and your AC unit.

Window AC units use a fair amount of electricity, but significantly less than central AC systems. Because they are more energy-efficient for cooling individual rooms or small spaces, their usage is comparatively low. On average, a window AC unit consumes between 500 and 1,400 watts, while a central AC system uses over 3,500 watts—meaning a window unit uses about one-third of the energy. This typically translates to a monthly running cost of $15 to $40, although this can vary depending on external factors.

You should know the main components of an air conditioner: the condenser coils, evaporator coils, drip pan, AC filter, ducts, and refrigerant. Each part plays a key role in the performance and safety of your AC system. When tracking the source of AC issues or odors, it helps to know where to look. Your outdoor unit houses your condenser coils, fan, and compressor. Your indoor unit houses your evaporator coils, drain lines, and filter, and it connects to your ductwork.

No, a furnace is not the same thing as an AC, or air conditioner, but these are both parts of an HVAC system. They both use air ducts to transport cool or hot air around your home to achieve a comfortable temperature set by your thermostat. An AC runs on electricity, while a furnace can use different fuel sources.
