"**Update 10/19/15:

TMI did call me to chat about the issues I experienced. Apparently the costs were correct (although I still think they are too high). The customer service rep did say that they should not have quoted anything for me over the phone. I appreciated the response, and concern, but I would still hesitate to recommend them, as I think the prices are too high, and I do not like the model of not having an estimate until you have already paid the service visit fees. I will go with plumbers who charge an hourly rate in the future.

*Original Review:

My experience was similar to the review from August 2014.
We were having new flooring installed in our bathroom and needed the toilet pulled and then later reinstalled on a higher surface. After getting phone estimates in the $200 range (including the site visit fees) from a number of plumbers, I decided to go with TMI because they seemed to have a better sense of the specific cost based on the service.
Once the plumber was on site, it became clear that we needed to switch out the shutoff valve at the toilet, as 40+ years of Rock Island hard water had done a number on it. At this point, I felt as if there was a bit of bait-and-switch going on. Quickly flashing some tables at me from a booklet, the plumber then quoted me $410, instead of the $200 range. These tables did not outline why the cost would be more than twice the price for a smidgen more work, but I felt that at this point it would have been a waste of money and time to pay this plumber for the estimate alone, and start anew with another service.
We determined that the toilet also suffered from similar issues (hard water), and he recommended replacing it. I did sidestep his hard sell to purchase a toilet through them. Instead, he spent a total of 20 minutes turning off the main water supply, replacing the valve at the toilet and removing the toilet.
In the interim (as other contractors were replacing my floors), I reached out to TMI to see if there would be additional charges for installation if I purchased a new toilet on my own. Thankfully, they said no, so I went ahead an purchased one to be installed once the floors were finished.
When the plumber returned to install the new toilet, he tried to charge me an additional ~$120 to raise the toilet level. Upon inquiring about my receipt (which I did not receive originally) for my earlier payment, we learned that I had already paid for this service.
Long story, short: the work was done well, but my major issue is in their billing structure. There was a definite lack of clarity in the process of going about an estimate, and the price charged for a minor addition doubled my original estimate. This seems like a classic bait-and-switch to me. This, coupled with the attempt to extract an additional charge out of me discourages me from ever using their services again."

"In the last month I have had both of these crews working on my patio and basement wall. I asked them questions and they gave good answers. Tim Boudrean, the crew leader on the wall project, took time to explain the whole process of putting up carbon fiber wall supports. The whole crew seemed to know there jobs well and cleaned up good when they were done. I was pleased with the work done. I must say I had one major complaint about the wall job. The agreement I signed stated I must prepare the basement so they would have access to the wall. It was difficult for me because we have a bathroom against part of the wall. I was afraid the bathroom would be destroyed, so I measured the distances that was needed between the carbon braces. (a lot of Youtube research) I figured that the only part of the bathroom affected would be the sink. The sales rep disagreed and said the shower had to be taken out. I gave in and had the shower taken out. The installation crew actually placed the braces almost exactly where I had marked. The shower did not have to be removed. Mid American Basement should have sent an installer instead of a sales rep to verify the placements. It cost me extra to have the shower removed and will cost more to repair the tear down."

"I received a call from the company within a 1/2 hour of the business opening. The sump pump recently quite working without my knowledge. The well was completely full and overflowing. The tech was here within the 2 hours. He was polite, friendly and professional. He not only answered my endless questions; Also, he provided information regarding what he was doing and why as he was putting in the new sump pump. All in all, the experience was very good and I will call them again when any plumbing issues come up. I rate the value for the money as fair since I do not have anything to refer it to. I looked up prices for sump pumps which had a wide range for price."

"Dillon was a great guy and worked fast and efficient. My house is 50 plus years old and the duct work had never been cleaned. Post the work, the house even smelled better. I am in the middle of a complete remodel and living in the house. I had all 11 vent grilles removed -(saved Dillon a pile of time not having to remove and re-install) and I would have thought a discount would have been in order."

"Our technician, Dameyan Jackson, called the night before the day of service to let me know the time that he would be here to service our system. On Friday, he called to let me know that he was available to come earlier than scheduled, if I would like. He arrived shortly after the phone call, came in and quickly recognized that the pump had failed. He was very knowledgeable and professional. I was very pleased with his service and look forward to him returning to install a new pump."

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can add a battery to your existing sump pump. There are batteries available that can be plugged into your existing system; however, most battery backups come as a complete system and act as a replacement for your existing sump pump.

No. Sump pumps have different capacities, which refers to the volume of water that they can remove. They also come in various horsepower ratings, which measure the size of the pump’s motor. For many homes, 1/3 horsepower is enough. But if you live in an area that floods often, you might need a more powerful model.

Repairs typically take 1-2 hours, while replacements, depending on accessibility, may require up to 4 hours.

Yes, many providers offer warranties for new pumps and labor. Confirm terms before scheduling.

Sump pumps remove excess water from the lowest point of your home, which prevents flooding. When a sump pit fills with water, a sump pump pushes that water outside of the basin and into an exterior discharge pipe. From there, the water flows away from your home, so it doesn’t damage your foundation.
