The depth of your septic tank has nothing to do with its size. In fact, some septic tanks can even be installed above-ground! Like other sizes, a 1,000-gallon septic tank could be buried as shallow as 4 inches below the ground or as deep as 4 feet. It all depends on your specific property.

Baking soda does very little to nothing for a septic tank, but it can help unclog a drain or clean out a garbage disposal. Rotten tomatoes and yeast are the best ways to increase the bacteria in your septic tank naturally. You can add these to your system once every three months.

While you can drain water softener backwash into a septic tank, doing so may cause several problems. One problem is that increased sodium chloride levels from water softener backwash can kill septic tank bacteria, decreasing the effectiveness of this wastewater treatment system. Another issue is that large calcium deposits can eventually stop up the drain field and lead to poor drainage. 

How do you set your well’s pressure tank? All you need to do is first drain the tank of water and find the pressure switch. Remove the switch cover and adjust the switch with a wrench—clockwise to increase water pressure, and counter-clockwise to reduce it. Each complete turn of the nut on the switch should equal 2.5 psi. Once this is done, replace the switch cover. All that’s left is to adjust the pressure of the tank itself using an air compressor and a tire gauge to support the new setting.
