"They were very informative and were spot on with their estimate. They did a very good job and did everything they said they were going to do. My wife and I were very pleased with the outcome and were very impressed with their service."

"Andy came over on Friday and when he saw the job, told me that he could do it right then. He cut down the tree and removed the roots on the spot. What excellent service."

"Sunset Tree service finally contacted me. They were waiting to return from vacation. Work was scheduled immediately, and they arrived as agreed. Reviewed project and they went to work. They asked me a couple of questions during the project to make sure the job was being done to my liking. They completed the job in a timely fashion and performed a cleanup. I am very pleased with the results and would recommend this type of work. The only complaint was timely communication which could be avoided if the importance is made clear at the first meeting."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

No, you cannot plant a tree above a gas line. Tree roots grow and spread over time and can sometimes dent, crack, or penetrate a gas line. Those same roots may also cause accessibility problems for maintenance or repairs. You can generally plant vegetation with non-invasive root systems, low-growing vegetation, and flower beds near gas lines.

While palm trees can bring aesthetic appeal to your yard, they have a couple of drawbacks. The main disadvantage is that many types require warm climates, so if you live in a cold region, you need to ensure you pick a palm that can withstand the freezing temperatures. Another downside is that maintenance can be difficult because of their height, which means you will need to pay a pro to prune the tree as needed.

If you want to take your tree-planting hobby beyond your outdoor space, here are a few great ways to do it:

  • Encourage your neighbors to participate in the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program, which has a four-step framework that helps communities grow and maintain their own tree cover.

  • Support businesses that plant trees.

  • Lobby your local government to plant more trees around your community.

  • Donate to a tree-planting charity.

It takes anywhere from three to seven years for a stump to decompose on its own. This timeframe can depend on the kind of tree and your climate. The lower to the ground the stump is, the faster it rots. If you kill a tree stump with salt, boiling water, herbicide, light deprivation, or burning, the tree stump decomposes faster.

Stump grinding consists of removing the visible part of the stump, but the roots remain intact. Depending on the tree and root system, the roots may still grow after stump grinding. If you are concerned about root growth and damage, you may want to consider having a stump removed completely.
