"Excellent! Jake was here in a timely manner to look at tree and give a quote for removal. He did exactly what he said he would do. Tree was a huge pin oak which he took down safely, ground out stump and filled in with dirt. Left my yard free of any debris as they raked the yard of sticks, leaves etc. They are polite, dependable, honest, hard working guys who do what they say and are careful of your property. They show up when they say they will and go right to work. Their quote was more than fair, with no hidden fees. Will have them back in fall to trim a tree."

"I hired Sunset Tree Service to remove about 10 very large trees that were too close to my house. These trees were mostly over 50 feet tall. I was out of town during the Deracho in 2020 and it took me 2 and 1/2 hours to get through Cedar Rapids and I thought my house probably would be destroyed. Luckily we only had branches down and a few small trees. After the second Deracho this December I decided it was time to do something. Jake Borntreger gave me a real reasonable quote and him and his helpers took down all the trees, shredded all the brush and took out all stumps. It only took them 4 days to complete the project. They are real hard workers and have good equipment. I kept all the wood as I heat my shop mainly with wood. They also gave some friends of ours that we recommended them to a quote for some tree removal. I definitely would hire them again and recommend if you need tree work you contact Jake at Sunset Tree Service"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

It may not be worth it to rake every leaf in your yard, but it’s necessary to remove the majority of leaves to prevent them from smothering grass growth on your lawn. However, raking leaves isn’t your only option for leaf removal. You can remove leaves easily with a leaf blower or compost or mulch them with your lawn mower to repurpose them to help grow your garden or yard.

Palm trees will not regrow from a stump once the tree has been cut down. This type of tree is unique because the root and stump system will slowly decay after the tree is gone, unlike other species that can regrow. That’s why it’s preferable to remove dead or decaying palm tree stumps quickly as they can become an eyesore and don’t offer future growing potential.

Some trees will bounce back just fine, and others will struggle and possibly die. Evergreens, for instance, have a very difficult time recovering after droughts and usually die after periods of extreme dryness. Usually, you’ll have to just wait and see—if the drought occurs in wintertime, it’s possible that your tree will recover during the gentler springtime.

The best time to trim trees is in late fall through winter when the tree has slowed its growing for the year. Cold weather stops insects and fungal growth from attacking a new tree wound. Summer and fall are considered the worst times to trim trees, but it’s permissible in certain scenarios, such as tree disease, damaged branches, or small, aesthetic cuts.

In most ways, palm trees are incredibly low-maintenance. They don’t need a ton of water—which is why they’re so beloved in desert regions—and they basically prune themselves. But they do need an ample supply of sunlight and to be in soil that will allow for proper drainage so that their roots don’t become waterlogged and at risk of developing illnesses.

If the plant begins to wilt, develop spots, or change color, these could all be signs that your palm tree has a disease. But a few basic treatments, like pruning and applying fungicide, will usually be more than enough to return it to perfect health.
