"Trent from Hoekstra Electric did a great job at installing some new outlets for me in my office in my basement. I had called to inquire about if it would be possible to get outlets in my office and a rough idea on what it would cost. When Trent showed up, he offered to get them installed for me right then and there - totally awesome!! It is been amazing having more spaces to hook my different machines into. Not only was Hoekstra Electric able to get to my issue fast, they were also super kind and very professional. I would definitely recommend them!"

"The work went very well. I believe the job was more difficult than the work described in the estimate. There was no additional charge. Alvin answered every question. He responded to my emails promptly. He even came back to reset the new system after my dog ate one of the remotes. Two months later my 10 year old TV quit. I had several questions about a replacement TV, which was returned based on Alvin's advice. I will make an appointment to have Alvin install the new TV."

"I just pay $75 you never know who's going to come out. They do everything electrical. Just about everything is covered except the septic tank. I had an air conditioner replaced. It went great, all I had to do was pay for the freon. He didn't charge e more than what was needed."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Burlington, address urgent electrical issues like sparking outlets, burning odors, or frequent breaker trips right away, as these pose safety risks. Outdated panels or missing GFCI protection should be handled soon, especially in older homes. Plan upgrades for surge protection or outdoor wiring during milder weather. Prioritize indoor electrical work during cold Iowa winters and schedule generator installations before storm season for reliable backup power.

Helpful?

In Burlington, homes built before 1950 often have knob-and-tube wiring, limited grounding, or plaster walls, which make upgrades more complex. Balloon framing can restrict running new wires, and homes near the river may have settling issues that affect electrical boxes. If your property is in a historic district, expect stricter permit requirements and extra steps for electrical modifications, adding to project complexity.

Helpful?

In Burlington, you’ll find full-service electrical contractors for residential and commercial needs, as well as specialists in panel upgrades, generator installations, solar projects, and industrial systems. Many local electricians are experienced with older homes and historic properties, which are common in the area. For projects involving electrical safety upgrades or weatherproofing, look for contractors familiar with Burlington’s unique housing stock and climate challenges.

Helpful?

Before starting electrical work in Burlington, secure all necessary permits and check local code requirements for GFCI and AFCI protection. Always call before digging to avoid utility lines and coordinate with your utility provider if service upgrades are needed. If your home is in a historic district, plan for extra approval steps. Scheduling inspections early helps avoid delays and ensures electrical safety throughout the project.

Helpful?

For electrical maintenance in Burlington, keep essentials like a non-contact voltage tester, multimeter, wire strippers, insulated screwdrivers, and a reliable flashlight. Stock up on GFCI outlets, circuit breakers, wire nuts, electrical tape, and weather-resistant boxes to handle local moisture and temperature swings. Surge protectors and electrical caulk are important for electrical safety, especially during Midwest storms and Burlington’s humid summers.
