"Two basement (cement block) walls had cracks that ran horizontally and about two feet below ground level.  During wet conditions these cracks tended to open wider as the walls slightly bowed inwards.  During dry conditions these cracks closed as the walls returned to (almost) normal vertical position.  There was no water problems but the cracks were aggravating.  Better Basements recommended the power braces in order to prevent the condition from getting any worse and to keep the walls from seasonal bowing.

He soon found that an improperly installed kitchen drainage pipe had slipped and major water was pouring into the wall every time the sink was used.
