"We were very pleased with the work performed by Marc and his team. We had 11 windows, a door, and gutters installed. I researched numerous contractors for windows. MWT’s prices were fair and we were happy with the Alside Mezzo windows chose. I was most Impressed with Marc’s responsiveness. We had some minor follow items to be addressed after our installation. My calls were always returned the same day and he quickly resolved my needs. I would be happy to use MWT again."

"They were incredibly responsive. Within an hour of filling in information on the Angie's list site, they were at my house. They did a perfect and professional job and, best of all, they charged nearly $300 less than the quote I got from Roto Rooter!"

"I enjoyed meeting Mark Hardess to start this project and Jackson Ceule did a great job designing my shower. Installers Matt & Thomas were great! They came to the house nice and early and worked steadily throughout the day. I am very pleased with their attention to detail and leaving my house clean. I reviewed their work and was completely satisfied and I would recommend this team."

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

Window screens can take anywhere between 10 minutes and an hour to replace, depending on the complexity of the replacement and the accessibility of the window. Replacing the screen inside an existing frame normally takes longer than replacing an entire screen, frame and all, if you purchase a prefabricated screen already mounted on the frame.

Yes, a variety of screen materials cut out glare from the sun. Solar screen material can block up to 90% of the glare and heat from the sun, saving on cooling costs. It also offers privacy yet unlimited outward visibility. The cost depends on the size of the screen roll, but solar screens cost between $25 and $90 per roll.

It is generally recommended to remove window screens for the winter, especially in climates with heavy snow, freezing rain, or frigid temperatures. Removing them helps prevent damage to the screen mesh and frames that can be caused by ice and moisture buildup between the screen and the window. Taking out the screens also allows more natural light and warmth into your home during shorter winter days and makes it easier to clean your windows thoroughly. In warmer climates where harsh weather is not a concern, the decision is more about personal preference; some homeowners prefer the clearer view, while others leave them in for convenience.

Most window screens last for about 10 to 12 years, assuming they are made from quality materials and receive proper care. The lifespan of common materials like fiberglass and aluminum can vary based on weather exposure, as constant sun or harsh winters can accelerate wear and tear. Regular cleaning and basic maintenance can help extend their life. Signs that a screen needs to be replaced include rips, tears, brittle or sagging material, fading, or a bent frame. While small tears can often be repaired, larger areas of damage typically mean it's time to replace the entire screen.

Among the various entry points into your residence, it's crucial to recognize that your basement windows are arguably the most susceptible. Basements usually have windows facing the side and back yards, often concealed from driveway floodlights, porch lighting, and doorbell cameras. Their vulnerability underscores the importance of reinforcing basement window security to safeguard your home from break-ins.
