"Our first encounter with Ragsdale was late last summer, around August. We have had problems with both our upstairs and downstairs units over the past four years, and we were finally fed up and wanted the upstairs unit replaced. Ben came out, diagnosed the problem, and quoted us for the replacement of the unit. The price was more than reasonable, considering we had paid three other companies over the two years prior to "fix" different issues. The unit was promptly installed and immediately worked like a champ. At that time, our downstairs unit was functional.

Fast forward to this year, Ragsdale put in multiple calls, emails, and even a mailed letter to us reminding us of the routine maintenance that was due on our upstairs unit. I am thankful that they are that dedicated to ensuring the quality of their work. As it happens, our downstairs unit has now taken a turn. Ben came back out and quoted us for a new downstairs unit with his professional recommendations. He is very professional and knowledgeable, and we are thankful to have had him out again.

Our routine maintenance check for the upstairs unit was today, and Sam swung by to check out the systems. He not only gave us the best maintenance check and tune up, but he gave us some warnings about both units running so much and how we could lower our electric bill.

We will not be going anywhere else for our HVAC needs! I highly recommend Ragsdale and all of their staff.

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Wiring a light switch wrong can cause a fire if the incorrect wiring causes arcing, meaning the current jumps uncontrolled from one conductor to another. Loose wires or worn wires that are not repaired or replaced can cause arcing. If you’re not 100% sure you can do the job safely, don’t attempt to wire a light switch on your own.

You can certainly talk with electricians about pricing, but the pro has the first and last word on what they charge. If you feel like a quote is too expensive, you can discuss the quotes that other electricians have made and see if they’ll lower their estimate in return. Or you may be able to talk about specific parts of the estimate and how they can be changed.

A voltmeter measures the voltage of AC or DC electrical current. Unlike a multimeter, measuring voltage is a voltmeter’s only function. Voltage is the potential difference between two points within a circuit. Measuring voltage with a voltmeter can help identify wiring issues or determine whether a battery is dead.

The Occupational Safety and Home Administration (OSHA) requires an electrical panel to have a minimum of three feet (36 inches) of room from the front of the panel to the closest obstacle. In this case, the word obstacle refers to nearly everything, including walls, machines, and other fixed objects. Additionally, panels require at least 6½ feet of headroom in the area directly in front of the fixture. These requirements help ensure safe use of the panel and allow electricians plenty of room to work.

Most LED bulbs have a plastic covering, while incandescent bulbs will be made from glass. This is because LED bulbs don’t produce as much heat as incandescent bulbs, so the covering doesn’t need to be as heat resistant. Also, an LED light bulb will usually have a marking on its base that identifies it as an LED.
