"Trevor has been an amazing contractor who has helped us through the process of installing a large interior door for an office. He has helped ensure the space was properly prepared for installation of the door. The other contractors who have assisted Trevor have also exceeded my expectations. They have been extremely detail oriented and have done everything to ensure the best outcome. I would definitely work with Trevor for any future projects."

"We hired to remodel our guest bathroom due to a leak. All went well and completed in a timely manner. Very professional and patient (changed my mind last minute on floor tile pattern...and grout), but still able to get it done. Bathroom looked great!"

"Josh and crew were tremendous! They went above and beyond for all of my renovation needs. They turned a house leaving a lot to be desired, and made it into our dream home. I can?t imagine going through this process without his expertise. He made everything simple, and in a timely manner. He finished the project when he said it would be done. Top quality, 10 out of 10 all the way through. Thank you Refuge!!"

"All the work was done well and at the agreed upon, very reasonable price. It took a bit longer than I would have liked, but I think that’s pretty common with remodels. The proprietor included me appropriately during every phase including selection of flooring/carpet, paint color and appliances. He also suggested some enhancements based on my preferences. Billy is very friendly, personable and has great relationships with subcontractors."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

To determine if your basement walls are suitable for finishing, assess their structural integrity and moisture conditions. Look for any signs of damage, such as cracks, bowing, or excessive moisture. Ensure proper drainage and address any underlying issues before proceeding.

Consult with a professional if you're uncertain about the structural stability or potential risks associated with finishing your basement walls.

Adding a bathroom to your basement can increase your home value since homes with multiple bathrooms sell for more. The return on investment (ROI) for a basement bathroom is 50% to 75%. The actual return varies with your home and location. Adding a half bath to your home increases the value by 2.9% while finishing a basement increases the home value by 6.6%.

The most challenging part of finishing a basement is addressing moisture control. Basement waterproofing is an essential task that requires a professional’s skills and knowledge. If you don’t properly waterproof your finished basement, it’ll be vulnerable to dampness, water damage, and mold growth. Ensuring proper insulation and ventilation to combat these issues while meeting building codes adds complexity to your remodeling project.

Yes, barndominiums can have basements. Barndominiums are typically built over concrete slabs, so barndo basements are not very common. However, it is possible to include a basement in a barndominium blueprint as long as you’re building completely from scratch. Barndos can have the same types of basements as traditional homes, including full or walk-out basements.

Yes, you can add a bathroom to an unfinished basement, but you’ll want to take proper precautions if doing so. As with any bathroom addition, you’ll need to make sure that it’s approved by local building authorities first. With unfinished basements, you especially need to keep an eye on proper ventilation practices.
