"Tim and team were excellent to work with during the whole process. They arrived on time, did what they said they were going to do, and communicated well during the whole process. Issues were brought to our attention and we worked together to find a solution. I wish I had more projects to give him. You will not go wrong using Tim for your remodel needs. I can't say enough good things about the finished product and his service."

"Alirio was very punctual and professional. He did everything he said he would and more. I wouldn't hesitate to use him again if I needed to. He built humidity banks in my basement, and lined with a water vapor barrier, also treated basement for mold, installed a storm door (even touched up paint on it for me!), fixed a drain spout, cleaned my gutters and built a drain off the sunporch to discourage water run off near the house. Received a 10 year guarantee on work and the price was perfect. Thanks for the great service! A+++"

"Danny and his team were absolutely fantastic and did a marvelous job remodeling my partially finished basement and turning it into a BEAUTIFUL in law suite for my mother! He was very understanding of my budget and went above and beyond to provide me with different options to meet that budget. He was very attentive and quality focused and I couldn’t of asked for a better contractor. I definitely plan on using him in the future for any home improvement projects."

"We hired to remodel our guest bathroom due to a leak. All went well and completed in a timely manner. Very professional and patient (changed my mind last minute on floor tile pattern...and grout), but still able to get it done. Bathroom looked great!"

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Anything having to do with the structure of your home, such as raising the ceiling, is usually the most expensive part of finishing a basement. Another project component that could be a surprisingly high expense is adding an exterior entrance.

The cost of a walkout basement can be anywhere from $5,000 to $35,000.

Installing a bathroom in a basement isn’t a project for most homeowners. Many parts—plumbing, electricity, and carpentry—go into this project, each requiring expert-level knowledge and tools. One miscalculation can lead to very expensive repairs. Plus, some homeowner’s insurance might not pay for damages caused by a homeowner DIYing this project. You can protect yourself by allowing the pros to complete this job for you.

Some older homes have toilets in the basement to combat sewage backups. This type of toilet, also known as a Pittsburgh potty, acted as a safety valve over the incoming sewer line. If a line backed up, it would back up into the toilet because it was the lowest fixture in the home, keeping it out of sight and away from the finished areas of the house.

Basement toilets were also used by workers with messy jobs, like those who worked in coal mines or steel mills. This way, they could clean up and avoid tracking dirt through their home.

Yes, most general contractors require an initial down payment. A reasonable deposit is typically between 10% and 25% of the total project cost, although this can vary by project size and location. This upfront payment helps the contractor cover initial costs like materials, permits, licensing, and hiring subcontractors. The remaining balance is usually billed according to a schedule outlined in your contract, often tied to project milestones or completion dates. Be cautious of contractors who ask for a large deposit of 50% or more, as this could be a red flag for a scam.

Since DIYing a basement remodel isn't typically advised, there are some ways that you can still save money on this project without putting yourself in danger. Some ways to save money on a basement remodel include:

  • Painting walls yourself versus including in the cost of the remodel

  • Installing light fixtures yourself

  • Choosing prefabricated fixtures, like cabinets, over custom ones

  • Choosing a budget-friendly flooring option, like laminate or vinyl flooring, and add rugs where necessary
