"the driveway looks nice, but the edge where it meets the street is not filled in properly. As a result, my car scrapes when we pull into the driveway, rendering it basically unusable. I have called, and texted several times, and left a few detailed messages asking them to come and look at it and see if there is something that they can do but they have not returned phone calls. My husband spoke to them once and they asked for photos, which he supplied, but since then they have not responded and it has been a couple of months. Considering that we paid them well over $3K for this work, and their lack of professionalism, I would not recommend them at all."

A “clean” home inspection that reveals no issues may make the home more enticing to buyers, potentially raising the selling price.

Structural engineers can perform various inspections on different structures in your home. These inspections usually include a report detailing the engineer’s findings and recommendations for repairs so you can determine your next course of action for repairs, replacements, or new builds. Some of the most common structural engineering reports include:

  • Full home inspection: $350–$1,000

  • Foundation: $300–$800

  • Load-bearing walls: $300–$1,000

  • Roof: $150–$600

  • Chimney: $200–$500

Generally, you can tell if a home is bolted to the foundation by checking the foundation for plates. If you see that your foundational plates connect to wood or bolts protruding from them, this means that you have a bolted foundation. However, it's always wise to bring a home inspector in to confirm if your foundation is secure.

Insurance companies will often take pictures of your house to confirm property details before issuing a policy or after receiving a claim. The insurance company may keep these photos on hand to compare to later pictures if you make a claim. It’s common for an insurance company to send someone to photograph the exterior of your home and your property without notifying you in advance.
