"The electrician who came to my house was apparently assigned to me by a group called Handy, which I was connected with when I created a new project/order through Angi. The electrician's name was Terrance Toomer. He was the only person from Handy that I ever spoke with. I did not receive, for example, any kind of a communication (email or text, etc.) from the company called Handy. They never sent me any information regarding services, policies, etc. When the electrician was finished with the job, I asked him what is the best way to pay. He recommended using the Venmo app, which I did. I payed him $275 electronically. On the next day, my online checking account was charged $273 by Angi. I immediately texted the electrician to ask why I paid for this job twice. He was evasive and then started ignoring my texts. After a few days, he finally replied and said "The company that hired me also booked your job." He was referring to Handy. So I got in touch with Handy to ask them to help me resolve this; obviously it is not right that I should have paid for the same job twice. They were not helpful. They did generously offer me $136 dollars credit toward any future job I book with them....but I am obviously not interested in working with them in the future because I cannot trust them. I explained that they were the ones who assigned that particular contractor to me. I did not pick him. Nor did I ever here from anyone associated with Handy other than him. When he came to my house, he was representing Handy, and thus also representing Angi. When I paid him, I was following his instructions. What now seems to be clear is that he simply conned me into paying him directly without telling me that it is the policy of Handy for customers to NOT pay contractors directly.... Once again, I emailed Handy to explain that they're hired representative badly misrepresented them and begged them to rectify this situation...and their reply to me was essentially to say 'we understand you are frustrated, but too bad, sorry.' I had never used Angi before this experience. The whole reason I did was precisely because I was under the impression that this is the safe way to bring into my home a hired contractor... Instead, a very unscrupulous person came into my family's home and conned me out of almost $300....and his employers will not do anything to rectify the situation."

"I regret to inform others of our horrendous experience with Georgia Clean and Associates. Tasked with handling a biohazard cleanup following the passing of my father, their service was grossly unsatisfactory. Their response time was painfully slow, requiring several days to even begin addressing our situation, then it took them an astonishing several weeks to complete the cleanup. Not only was their efficiency in question, but their communication was absolutely abysmal. It was as if we were left in the dark, with little to no updates about progress or processes. The ultimate shock was receiving an exorbitant cleanup bill, well into the six figures. Their quoted price was deemed too excessive by our insurance provider and was not settled. To add insult to injury, they have now resorted to threatening us legally, demanding we send them $46,000 from our repair funds or face a lawsuit in five days. I cannot stress enough how you should avoid Georgia Clean and Associates at all costs. Their poor service and callous approach during a period of intense grief was not only unprofessional but heartless. Families dealing with loss deserve a company that empathizes with their situation, not one that exacerbates it. Please seek out a better-staffed, more professional and esteemed company who truly understands the emotional toll such circumstances can bring. You deserve a firm that will help you navigate through such difficult times, not one that victimizes you further."

Carpet Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Carpets do best with non-abrasive cleaning solutions either purchased at the store or made at home. You can apply solutions of salt, water, vinegar, or baking soda to your carpet or choose a carpet-safe cleaner. Never mix the two. In between deep cleans, vacuuming twice a week should do the trick for a clean carpet.

The best way to clean fine dust particles after construction is by combining dusting with vacuuming. Start up high by dusting ceiling fans, walls, window sills, countertops, and other surfaces throughout your house. Once the dust has settled, go over all of your floors with a high-powered vacuum, giving a little extra attention to the carpeting. Make a second pass with your vacuum, and then mop all hard surfaces to get any remaining dust. Don’t forget to vacuum your HVAC returns and supply vents and swap out the filters while you’re there.

You should clean your cushions at the beginning and end of every summer or whenever they look worse for wear. Keep your patio cushions looking newer for longer by cleaning sofa stains as soon as they happen.

Yes, you should always vacuum before cleaning your carpets to remove any dust or debris. If you hire a professional carpet cleaner, they’ll typically do this for you.

No, you should never vacuum or sweep up mouse or rat droppings, as doing so can release harmful particles into the air and increase your risk of disease exposure. Instead, wear gloves and a mask, spray the droppings with a disinfectant spray, let it soak for a few minutes, and then carefully wipe them up with paper towels. Afterward, disinfect the area thoroughly and immediately wash your hands when you’re done.
