"Parker and his crew are careful and skilled arborists, able to work in well established gardens with a minimum of disturbance. They removed a large tree beside my house and limbed up pecan, birch and oak while doing no damage to Japanese maples and perennials planted beneath. They also saved an old pecan by gently removing a strangling overgrowth of ivy from it. The end results were almost magical, more sunlight and airflow and better balance and form. Transformative in the best way."

"Not only was their work top-notch, but they were also friendly and easy to communicate with. They made sure I was satisfied with the job before they left, and they even offered some great tips on how to keep my yard looking great between cleanups. If you’re looking for someone reliable and hardworking for yard cleanup, I highly recommend! They exceeded my expectations, and I will definitely be using their services again in the future!"

"I hired the company in order to have 5 acres cleared and graded. I trusted it because few years ago I hired them for a mulching , demolition and excavation projects. The work is always performed flawlessly, they start and complete the work without interruption. That is a very important factor for us. The initial estimate I was given was what the total price at the closing of the project. This is what I respect greatly. Hire them with confidence."

"They did an excellent job cutting down the trees I needed and it storm the next day and I felt so happy. The scary tree was gone. I just ask the guy to cut a branch and he said he would and didn't. That is my only complaint. But overall I would recommend them and hire again."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

No, homeowners insurance typically does not cover the cost of removing a dead, sick, or rotting tree that is still standing. Insurance is designed to protect against sudden and unexpected accidents, whereas a tree dying or rotting over time is considered a maintenance issue. Coverage usually only applies after a tree has fallen and caused damage to your property.

If it’s only a smaller branch that has died and you’re keeping an eye on the tree, it’s probably nothing to worry about. But if other nearby branches start dying off as well, or a very large branch dies, then you likely have a bigger problem. It’s time to watch for diseases and other problems and possibly get professional guidance on how to proceed.

Your neighbor is not in a good position to know if your trees are truly dead or pose any kind of danger. That’s why hiring an arborist or tree service expert can be such an important part of the process. If the trees are still alive and don’t pose any threat, you’re in the clear (but you may want to document and photograph everything in case events turn sour down the road).

But if a tree is visibly dead and near the property line, you should remove it to be safe. If a dead tree falls on a neighbor’s property, they may have grounds to sue for negligence. If any branches on trees have died, it’s a good idea to cut them back for similar reasons.

Depending on the severity of the damage, a tree might continue healing for years after a split or a break. Saplings can usually bounce back in the spring in one or two seasons, but larger trees might take a few years to regain their former strength. If your tree is showing strong growth and is not dropping limbs, you can consider it healed after the first two seasons.

You should plant trees at least 15 to 20 feet away from your house, and more if the tree will grow large and spread its limbs. Trees pose several dangers to houses when planted too close. They can litter the roof with leaves and branches, create fire hazards, make a ladder for larger pests, and even damage the foundation as their roots grow.
