"I hired the company in order to have 5 acres cleared and graded. I trusted it because few years ago I hired them for a mulching , demolition and excavation projects. The work is always performed flawlessly, they start and complete the work without interruption. That is a very important factor for us. The initial estimate I was given was what the total price at the closing of the project. This is what I respect greatly. Hire them with confidence."

Small jobs welcome

"I had an excellent experience with the Shambry crew. I had a pecan tree damaged in a storm, and they used the bucket truck to take down the hanging branches. Excellent customer service, great price, high quality work and clean up. Showed up on time. Very pleasant to work with. Will definitely use them again."

"They did an excellent job cutting down the trees I needed and it storm the next day and I felt so happy. The scary tree was gone. I just ask the guy to cut a branch and he said he would and didn't. That is my only complaint. But overall I would recommend them and hire again."

"Did a great job, knocked out 4 stumps in about an hour for 60% of the price another company tried to charge me for just 3. Did an extra small stump for me just because he had time, at no extra charge! This guy will do right by you. I'll be telling everyone I know that he the go to guy for stump grinding in this area."

"I cannot recommend him enough! He does an amazing job every time and always leaves my yard looking great. He’s reliable, professional, communicates well, and is very reasonably priced. As a woman living on my own, feeling safe and comfortable with someone coming to your home is really important, and he has always been respectful, kind, and trustworthy. That peace of mind means more than I can explain. It’s hard to find people these days who are both dependable and genuinely good at what they do, but he absolutely is. I’m very thankful I found him and plan to continue using him going forward!"

"The team at HC Construction & Grading took on a major and challenging grading project at our mountain home in Dahlonega. We had several other companies come and look at the work and most were either asking a ridiculous price or afraid to take on the job. Once we hired HC they communicated very well and showed up when they said each week until the project was finished. The final results are better than we had imagined and we credit HC with seeing a better solution and executing it."

"When I ask for a quote at Angi for my driveway repair Back 40 & Co. was the only company that called me with a quote. Todd did an amazing job repairing my driveway. He was very professional and had all the equipment needed to get the job done right. I will hire him again for all of my grading needs. I've added some before and after pics."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Trees that flower in the spring—like dogwood, cherry, magnolia, and pear—should not be pruned during the winter. These spring-flowering plants grow buds on old growth, so you’ll actually remove what would’ve been gorgeous flowering foliage. Instead, wait to prune until right after they bloom, when the flowers fade.

Firewood tends to be cheaper during the spring and summer. When the demand for firewood is lower during these seasons, many firewood companies offer lower prices and added discounts. In addition, the supply of firewood is typically higher in these months, meaning the quality is typically higher as well.

The best time to cut down a tree is during its dormant season, typically in winter or early spring, after all the leaves have fallen. Removing a tree during this period is advantageous for several reasons. Frozen ground helps secure the tree stump, protects the surrounding landscape from damage, and reduces the risk of the tree falling in an unintended direction. With the leaves gone, there is less risk of the tree's foliage getting tangled with other trees. Additionally, since this is often a slower season for tree services, you may be able to hire a professional at a lower rate. This dormant period is also the best time for tree trimming.

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.

Whether tree roots will continue to grow after a tree has been cut down depends on the species. Some tree roots will eventually die because they can no longer get nutrients through photosynthesis. However, other species that reproduce through root sprouts can continue to grow and produce new sprouts for seven years or more. For example, the roots of elms, ficus, and willows tend to regrow aggressively, while the roots of pines, oaks, and maples will typically die. To determine if a root system is still active, look for new sprouts on the old trunk, stump, or any exposed roots.
