Hello friend, my name is Michael Goodrich and I am one of the owners and founders of Harmony Homes Construction. Our goal is to change the face of the contractor name, old boomer contractors have be-trusted clients for so long, jokes fly around about how bad contractors are, if they'll show up, if they'll raise the price. This is terrible practice, and here at Harmony Homes Construction, we've gazed dead into the eyes of any problem and find solutions. For the last three years of business, we've never a single job on a "sour note" because when it comes to YOUR house YOU'RE right!

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The Biden Administration banned the sale of incandescent light bulbs for general service lamps in 2023. All household light bulbs must meet a minimum efficiency of 45 lumens per watt, three times that of a standard incandescent light bulb.

The main motivation was to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. It is expected that banning incandescent light bulbs will cut over 200 million metric tons of carbon emissions over the next 30 years. Some bulbs are exempt, like chandelier lights and Christmas lights.

Some warning signs that your electrical meter box is overloaded include frequent circuit tripping, scorch or burn marks, and flickering lights. You may also notice a burning scent coming from the electrical panel. Keep in mind that a circuit breaker trips as a protection measure; it turns itself off to prevent potential fires.

Your heating and cooling systems cost you the most on your electric bill and make up 50% of your bill on average. Your washing machine, dryer, oven, and stove contribute significantly to your electric bill as well. Lights, fans, and smaller electronics add up, but aren’t the biggest energy consumers. You can reduce your power usage by setting optimal temperatures on your thermostat and investing in energy-efficient appliances.

No, both switches do not need to be on for a 3-way switch to work. When the two switches are in opposite positions, the circuit is open and the light is off. Flipping either switch closes the circuit and turns the light on. So, either switch can turn the light off independently, and both switches do not need to be in the same position for the switch to function.

It depends on where you live. Some cities may require a permit for electrical work, while others don’t. You’ll need to call your city’s building department to determine if you’ll need to apply for a permit or not. If a permit is required, you’ll likely have to pay a fee for it.

By submitting this question, I acknowledge and agree that Angi may publicly display my name, city, state, and question on the website for professionals and others to see.
