"Professional crew of two, very punctual and professional.  Quality of work was OK, but not great by any means.  I would say they could have done a better job with more time, but given the pre-paid service package was for a painter for a day, there wasn't much they could accomplish with great quality when they needed to wait for spackling paste to dry before painting  (8 man-hours with a crew of two, only gives you 4 hours).  I would advise anyone looking to pre-purchase a time-based service like this to reconsider the work they are paying for, it's a better scenario for both the contractor and the buyer to pay based on a project, which would lead to better reviews and a higher quality level of the work performed.  Time-based service promotions like these either wind up costing you more than you expected due to the additional time required to complete the work you think you are getting completed, or you suffer from lack of quality trying to squeeze as much work into the time allotted.  Either way, it's not a benefit unless you manage the project well from the start.

"Charels and/or his crew had to make a number of trips to the job site initially to correct some poorly hung dry wall from a previous subcontractor that must have been hired because they were cheap. Charles corrected the problems and returned several times to finish up the smaller items that needed to be finished before painting can start. He was prompt, professional and courteous and he will be the first contractor I call on my next project."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Bump-out additions can extend anywhere from 2 to 15 feet from an existing room. The right size will depend on how you plan to use the new space. For a cantilever bump-out, which doesn't require additional foundation support, the limit is typically 24 inches (2 feet). If a footing and foundation are part of the project, a bump-out can be much larger, even encompassing a whole room. It's also important to remember that many residential properties have limits on the total house size relative to the lot size.

Balcony construction or replacement typically requires a building permit from your local permitting authority. Safety and building integrity are the main reasons for the need to obtain a permit and the subsequent inspections. In some cases, especially cantilevered balconies, your municipality may also require the oversight and signature of a structural engineer.

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

When building a house, it is customary to use 16d nails that measure 3 1/2 inches in length to construct the frame. These nails are crucial in providing the necessary support and stability for structural elements like joists and studs, which ensures a sturdy framework.

It's possible to turn your carport into a living space, but there are additional factors to address over turning it into a garage. HVAC, plumbing, and electricity won't be optional, and you'll need finished flooring, drywall, trim work, and legal ceiling height, for starters. Also, keep in mind that living space conversions may require upgrading the foundation underneath, and the permits might be more expensive as well.
