"Trevor has been an amazing contractor who has helped us through the process of installing a large interior door for an office. He has helped ensure the space was properly prepared for installation of the door. The other contractors who have assisted Trevor have also exceeded my expectations. They have been extremely detail oriented and have done everything to ensure the best outcome. I would definitely work with Trevor for any future projects."

"Jonathan and his crew did an awesome job on my basement drywall and painting. I hired another contractor to hang drywall in my basement to finish our basement. The contractor did a horrible job. Jonathan and his crew came in and fixed all the mudding, sanding and also painted everything. They did an awesome job and would definitely hire them again. Everything looks great and they cleaned up everything when they finished."

"The professionalism of this company is beyond belief for a painting contractor. The quality of the work was excellent, and every person I dealt with was fantastic. They also pressure washed my driveway, walkway, and porch as well as cleaned my gutters and windows. I ended up paying more than the original quote due to some additional needed repairs (which I approved first) that were brought to my attention. My only disappointment was during my final inspection after the work was completed, I noticed an area of damaged siding adjacent to the roof trim that was painted which should have been brought to my attention during the project. The additional cost to bring workers and equipment back out was too high, and I was thus unable to have those repairs done."

"The owner was responsive to provide a bid and started work on the agreed upon day. The foundation repair seems to be of good quality and I would recommend them for this type of repair. They work met all expectations for this portion of the project. We included a small tuck pointing project on a wall and masonry refinishing of a porch step as part of the contract. This small part of the project overshadows the entire job based on the poor quality of work. The pictures below show the tuck pointing AFTER the first attempt to fix the problem. They did not even touch the worst bricks at the top and poorly applied masonry on the bottom part as shown in the picture. On the step, they patched the a portion that was flaking and left the remainder of the step untouched. The owner said he didn't think we had agreed to fix the whole step (why would anyone only patch one foot of a six foot step? ...and it was specified in the contract). He made the requested repairs after the first attempt and less than two weeks later, the second picture shows the end results. It crumbled like sand without touching it! I emailed the owner and asked how he would like to handle the situation and he never responded back. Masonry work is not their specialty....Floors Sag and Shake doesn't apply to masonry! I don't normally write reviews, but I can't let this go without sharing."

"

Sales person (owner) was very knowledgeable and gave detailed steps as to what needed to be done to resolve problem. Work crew were professional and worked in a timely manner. They kept me informed as to how the job was progressing. They clearly answered any questions I had about their work processes. When they were done clean-up was so good you could not even tell they had been there.

"The work itself is excellent--clean, neat and very smoothly applied. For the most part, they were very prompt on the days that they said they would come but we did have one no-show on a Saturday when they were working to make up time because of extra detail work that they had not expected. We did have trouble with coordination, mostly from the project management side. To explain the project management comment further: For example, when they showed up on site, they didn't know what color paint I wanted where, even though that information had been previously provided during the estimate process. As they worked on the job we realized that some of the details of what I wanted, such as repainting the trim, had been overlooked and we had to adjust the schedule for all our contractors when they readjusted to add that work back in. They missed written details in both information I provided them and in the scope that they provided to me, which I had to catch and point out to them. However, I still give them a B overall because they were extremely responsive to make sure everything was covered when I pointed things out, and they were always extremely nice and not antagonistic about me needing to do so. The work was definitely A+ quality. If your job has a lot of detail, you might have to oversee them more than you'd like, but you do get a good product in the end."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

It’s sometimes safe to replace a load-bearing wall with a beam, but you need a structural engineer to sign off on the project. You’ll also likely have to upgrade to a steel I-beam or another material that’s stronger than wood to maintain the level of support you need without the wall underneath.

Most Cape Cod houses are two stories tall at the peak, although they’re considered one-and-a-half stories tall because the steep roof pitch cuts off a portion of the living space on the second story. Unless you raise the roof on your Cape Cod house to add a dormer, the interior rooms upstairs will lose some usable living space to the sloped ceilings.

Installing a tongue-and-groove wall requires similar techniques to those associated with installing shiplap. However, because of the precision necessary to make each board fit perfectly and the increased material prices, the cost is higher than that of shiplap installations. Expect to spend between $2 and $6 more per square foot for tongue-and-groove walls versus shiplap ones.

There are a variety of second-story deck privacy ideas depending on your budget and aesthetic. For starters, you might consider fencing or tall privacy railing that masks a good portion of the open deck. A pergola or an awning can provide additional cover and shade. Outdoor curtains are an easy way to add or remove privacy at your convenience, plus they’re a wallet-friendly way to decorate your deck.

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.
