"I used AD for both insulation and drywall. The company is professional, responsive, affordable, and goes above and beyond what is requested. They were able to provide sound insulation for my basement theater and stay within my budget using multiple insulation materials and 5/8" drywall on all of my ceilings. Communication was excellent and the work was finished on time and looks great. I would definitely recommend AD and would hire them again in the future."

"They did a good job. The insulation works a lot better than I thought it would. With a outside temp of 95 and the temp in the shed at about 85 using a 10000 btu portable ac unit it cooled the shed down in about 20 minuets."

"They put a hole in the ceiling when they were sealing up everything. They put a hole in the roof and I started cleaning up some of it in the middle of the floor so my son could get out of the bed. They started blowing the insulation in. They said someone was going to call me they never did. I called the number on the card for the consultant and no one ever did. I called him back and left him the pictures of the insulation on the floor. Later on the sheet rock guy called and I asked him was he going to clean up the mess on the bed and he called the owner, and I sent the pictures to him and he asked the owner about the clean up and someone from USA was going to clean it up. The owner could have shown concern of what his company did. 3 days later the supervisor came out and cleaned it up; then the manager called."

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

Plaster is a pretty tough surface, but it can still sustain damage from things like bumping against it, water issues, dampness, extreme humidity changes, and plain old age. Most plaster walls last hundreds of years and will only be taken down to the base layer when major repairs are required. Being cautious around the wall, not placing furniture against it, and ensuring stable humidity are all great ways to reduce possible damage.

The two most common drywall thicknesses for ceilings are 1/2-inch and 5/8-inch. For most standard residential applications, 1/2-inch drywall is sufficient and widely used. It provides adequate support and is lighter and easier to handle during installation compared to thicker sheets. However, 5/8-inch drywall is often used for specific cases where additional benefits are needed. It is heavier but provides superior sound dampening and fire resistance. You should consider using 5/8-inch drywall for ceilings in commercial buildings, between a garage and a living space, or above a finished basement to meet building codes or for enhanced soundproofing.

Knowing what causes drywall damage can help stop it before it starts. Here are some of the most common causes of drywall damage:

  • Water damage from roof leaks or leaky pipes.

  • Small holes caused by doorknobs, minor accidents, and rodent infestations.

  • Wall dents stemming from moving furniture and minor accidents.

  • Wall cracks that form from a settling foundation or seismic activity.

  • Nail pops from nails and screws in the walls.

  • Large holes that are caused by accidents with heavy objects, children and pets, or sporting equipment.

Plaster that sags or bulges, shows extensive deep cracks, or is crumbling from water damage or simply time may need replacement. Plaster walls can look a little “worn” for a long time before they need replacing. The only real way to know if it needs a replacement is to hire a professional to assess the condition of the plaster.

If you only have tiny holes in your drywall (for example, dents or nail marks), you probably won’t need a patch kit. Instead, you can plug the hole with a small amount of spackle. Once the spackle dries, you can sand the area and paint over it—just like you would in the steps outlined above.
