"I highly recommend Pete Jennings! He painted and sealed my pool deck, and the results are incredible—it looks brand new. Pete was professional, efficient, and paid close attention to every detail throughout the entire process. Not only did he do outstanding work, but his pricing was also very reasonable. It’s hard to find someone who combines quality craftsmanship, reliability, and fair pricing, and Pete exceeded my expectations in every way. If you’re looking for someone reliable who takes pride in their work and delivers outstanding results, Pete is the person to call. I couldn’t be happier with how my pool deck turned out!"

"Matt quoted us a price, and a time frame, and stuck to both even though an extra coat of paint was needed for most of the rooms. He is truly a class act. We are part-time residents in Fernandina Beach, and he worked around our schedule for when it was convenient for us both before and after the work. I truly and freely recommend him and his crew to take on your project."

"I am in the middle of a project with Duval Masters right now and I am beyond pleased. It started with an exterior paint job and has extended to getting our new-to-us house getting a complete kitchen facelift. They are doing tile and backsplash work for us. I talked to David Wednesday morning and by lunchtime he had a crew demo’ing our kitchen tile. We had another contractor already working and he made sure to accommodate them as well. When I walked into my home after the first half day I was pleasantly surprised how clean they work. They put up sheets to close off the entire workspace and protect my existing floors. I’m very much looking forward to the end result"

Small jobs welcome

"We hired Jason to install new wooden treads on our stairs as well as hardwood flooring on two stair landings. He came immediately to give us a quote, the quote was very reasonable and we hired him to do the work. He came as scheduled and on-time. We did not know how to find a stain that for the treads that would match our banister and we were concerned that that vinyl click lock flooring we were going to put on the landings would match. Jason suggested that we use oak hardwood on the landings for a perfect match with the treads. He went to the supply house and found a stain that would match our banister color perfectly. He also found the proper oak hardwood for the landings. He went WAY above and beyond what I would expect any contractor to do. He also did a number of other things to make the landing transitions perfect. We recommend him VERY highly. He cleaned up the work site and was very reliable. We have a number of other projects that we will be hiring him for. If we could give him higher than 5 stars we would."

Painting questions, answered by experts

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.

You can weather a new wood fence by applying vinegar with steel wool as a way to fade some of the coloring. You may also find it easier to stain your entire fence a new color instead of trying to get newer fence boards to match an older one.

Wood stain is typically dry to the touch within 6 to 12 hours, but it is not fully cured at this point. You should wait at least 24 hours before applying a second coat or a protective finish. For surfaces like decks, avoid walking on them for at least 24 to 48 hours, and wait even longer before placing furniture. The full curing process can take from 24 hours to one week, depending on the type of stain. Factors like high humidity and cold temperatures can extend drying and curing times, so it's wise to allow for extra time in these conditions.

If possible, it is beneficial to paint both sides of your fence to protect the fence more completely from the elements. Painting both sides of your fence will create a more consistent appearance as well. However, the time and cost involved in painting both sides of the fence may cause people to paint only the side they see.

You should repaint your fence every 1 to 3 years, depending on the appearance of wear and tear. Weather and usage will factor into how often you should paint another coat on your fence. If you need to replace a few fence boards or posts, you may want to consider repainting the fence to help protect the rest of the fence as well as the new pieces against damage and deterioration from being exposed to the elements.
