"Just okay. Work started out great. Price was great and he was very responsive and on time. We discussed the issues and at that time he said he could cover the cracks in my drywall and install new siding. I requested pressure treated window sills for the room because the wood sills I had were warped feom the heat of the sun. As we neared the end of the project the work became sloppy. He left a hole in my wall and said he could not get his tool in there to put a piece in there to cover it. The last wall he put siding on was not measured pproperly. He filled 1/2 inch gaps with caulking to fill in the gaps which he was not even going to do until I asked him to. The door he installed fell off the top hinge so my husband had to put in longer screws. The drywall that was cracked has started to crack all over again. He also threw away the universal key to rekey the smartlock he just installed for me. Lastly he was supposed to fix a crack in my garage ceiling and he only fixed 1/2 of it. "FHIA replaced 17 windows and my front door with a side light. I rate them #3, because for the most part the project is getting done; however, the project started in April of 2025...due to factory corrections that were required. We're still waiting on them to finish and have the inspection done. I've already started making payments on this project with the hope they'll finish soon. There were hiccups with installation from the startup and ongoing with the various teams that would show up either with the wrong equipment or lacking what was needed to complete the job. Continue to find screws in my driveway after every visit. On the last visit my camera caught the team dumping their uneaten lunch scraps on my front lawn. If they would have asked there's a compost bin in the back they could have used for that. Because of these hiccups and various others incidents that occurred in addition to the length of time this project is taking to complete I rate them #3. I'll upload photos later."

Doors questions, answered by experts

A security door costs an average of $1,400, but costs can range from $600 for a simple screen or steel door to more than $4,600 for a wrought-iron security door. You can also buy specialized locks separately for $200 to $600. If you decide to hire a pro to install your new security door, you’ll spend around $275 to $425 on labor costs.

The best direction for a gate to swing depends on its location and purpose, but swinging inward is the general rule. An inward swing is often considered safer, prevents the gate from opening into public spaces like a sidewalk, and may be required by local building codes.

There are exceptions and specific considerations. If your property is on a slope, an inward swing might not be possible. For a deck gate, it's safest to have it swing away from any steps. In a backyard, the direction can be a matter of preference, though an inward swing can be helpful when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

Regardless of direction, ensure the gate can open fully without hitting any objects or blocking spaces. While an inward swing is standard, a gate that can swing both in and out offers the most flexibility if your setup allows for it.

Pocket and standard doors are similar in price, but pocket doors cost more to install than standard doors. Professionals usually charge around $150 to $200 to hang a standard door. But if you're installing a pocket door on an existing wall, you'll likely pay between $1,000 and $3,500

The cost of folding patio doors is higher than the typical patio door cost because of their size, complex mechanisms, and additional hardware needed to operate them. These doors may stretch as far as 18 feet, require specialized installation from an expert, and have many more moving parts that could malfunction if not installed carefully.

Yes, you can absolutely install an exterior door yourself, and installing a prehung exterior door requires few tools. However, exterior doors are heavy and bulky, and any mistakes during the installation process could have severe consequences, like a lack of security in your home, an increased risk of water getting in and causing damage, and an increased risk of pest infestation. It’s definitely possible to install an exterior door yourself, but it’s often a good idea to have a professional do it for you.
