Small jobs welcome

"I am 66 years of age and it has been my experience that when you hire a lawn maintenance company, initially they are terrific and reasonably priced. With time, the price generally goes up, and the quality and reliability goes down. This has not been my experience with K and A Lawns and More LLC. When hunkering down for the recent tropical storm, to our surprise K. & A showed up to perform their regular lawn care maintenance. Our family has been most impressed with their reliability, quality of work, pleasant and accommodating attitude, and reasonable fees. This recommendation was not solicited. I was so impressed that they came out hours before the storm, I walked up to co-owner Ken Bender and requested information on how to give their company a review. If you are tired of getting jerked around by your lawn maintenance company, you might give K and A lawns a try. Five Star Review"

Lawns questions, answered by experts

If you don’t remove a bush properly, it’ll come back each year. Removing the root system entirely is the only way to ensure the plant doesn’t have a chance to grow back. You can also use natural weed killers or you can choose to suppress the area with landscaping fabric. Additionally, consider planting alternative, non-invasive vegetation to deter the return of thorn bushes.

Depending on the method you choose to remove grass, it may or may not matter whether the grass is wet or dry when you perform the task. A dryer lawn will be easier to negotiate with a sod cutter, especially if you're not planning to reuse the turf. However, using a shovel by hand might be a little easier if the ground is slightly damp but not so much that it sticks to the tool.

To prepare your lawn for core aeration, water it the day before you aerate. (Alternatively, you can wait until it rains and aerate the following day.) Aerating after watering or a rainy day will make the process easier since you can penetrate moist soil better than dry soil. You should also flag your sprinklers so that you don’t accidentally hit them while aerating. If you have a lot of thatch buildup in your yard, you might need to dethatch your lawn before aerating as well.

The time that it takes to fill in a pool with dirt varies based on the size of the pool and the equipment you have available. Using heavy equipment, like an excavator rather than a shovel, will significantly cut down on the time it takes to complete the project. With the right equipment, it may only take a day or two. However, after the initial filling, the dirt will continue to settle over the following weeks and months. You may need to add more dirt to make the empty area level with the rest of the yard.

Excavators work in tandem with dump trucks to haul away excess dirt and soil. The excavator will dig into the ground and move the excess dirt into a pile. Using a backhoe, the specialist can fill a truck with excavated soil from that pile. They will then drive the truck to a different location where they can dump the material.
