"The whole process from inquiry to scheduling through performing the service was performed professionally and amicably. We had just acquired our condo in Channelside. As a result of the home inspection, the breaker panel was found to be serviceable, however, several wires were double tapped. Mike T. who arrived promptly as scheduled quickly assessed the problem and made an instant recommendation to correct on the spot. Additionally, Mike conducted a thorough inspect of condo’s electrical system. He was thorough in his assessments and clearly demonstrated a command of his craft. Moreover, he was extremely personable and exuberated trustworthiness. I would definitely recommend this outstanding firm for all your electrical needs."

"Highly Recommend Shock Doc Electric! We recently had our entire electrical panel replaced by Shock Doc Electric, and the experience was nothing short of outstanding. From start to finish, Matt was prompt, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. Matt arrived right on time, worked efficiently, and left everything spotless. The quality of workmanship was top-notch, and you can tell he take real pride in his work. ""I recently hired Transform Electric Florida, LLC to handle a full electrical panel upgrade and some tricky re-wiring at my house. From beginning to completion, the crew was incredibly professional, well-timed, and communicative. They took the time to explain the process and advised on the work needed to upgrade my aging panel and replacing some outdated wiring to ensure my home was safe and up to code. They handled all the coordination with the utility company and pulled the necessary permits. This was worth every penny and my peace that my home was clean at the end of every day’s work. Highly recommend any major electrical work!""

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The average cost to hire an electrician is around $350. However, every electrical job varies in scope, materials, and labor involved, so while you will likely pay anywhere between $85 and $1,100 for standard jobs, a project like rewiring a house can cost up to $30,000. You might also pay slightly higher prices if you need emergency work done or if the work involves accessing a hard-to-reach area in your home, like an attic or cramped crawlspace. You should ask your electrician for an estimate before agreeing to the work.

An undersized whole-house generator has the potential to overheat and shut down when you try to run a central AC system. This scenario can not only damage the whole-house generator, but can also trip your home’s breakers or cause electrical damage. To avoid this situation, hire a local generator installer to correctly size your whole-house generator.

When wiring a switch, the power typically comes into the receptacle first. The neutral wire goes straight to the outlet, while the hot wire is split. You'll need a wire nut to splice the hot wire back to one of the receptacles, but you will also tie another wire into that same wire nut and run to the switch. That way, you can control the flow of electricity to that particular receptacle by turning the switch on and off.

You can tell if a breaker is GFCI by looking for a red or yellow test and reset button that you can press in and out. You’ll know if an outlet is GFCI if the red reset button is located in between the two pronged sections.

A portable generator can supply power to selected appliances and circuits in a home, but it's generally not designed to handle the entire household's electrical needs simultaneously. Portable generators have limited wattage capacity, so they are only designed to power essential devices and electronics temporarily until local power is restored. If your power needs outweigh the capabilities of a portable generator, consider installing a whole-home generator instead.
