When your septic system starts backing up, draining slowly, or producing foul odors, you need a local team that understands the unique soil, rainfall, and rural property conditions in Lithia, Florida. At Septic Experts, we provide dependable septic tank pumping, inspections, repairs, drain field services, and complete septic system solutions for homeowners and businesses throughout Lithia and surrounding Hillsborough County communities. \n \nLithia properties often rely on private septic systems due to the area's larger residential lots, rural developments, and agricultural land. Florida's heavy rainstorms, sandy soil conditions, and high groundwater levels can put additional stress on septic systems over time. That's why regular maintenance and professional inspections are essential for protecting your property and avoiding costly repairs.

"Had issue with septic system, toilet not flushing and water backing up into downstairs shower. Called TPB on Monday they scheduled appointment for the next day. The pleasant technicians, Bill and Leo, called and arrived promptly. Pumped the tank (last clean out was 1.5 years earlier); mostly water. Bill, knowledgable and professional explained that the drain field was probably failing. The handle on the tank lid broke off and there was a chunk of concrete missing on the lip of the tank which allowed for sand/dirt and surface water to enter the tank as well. Bill recommended and installed a riser lid, sealing the broken tank lip and allowing easier access to tank. Very efficient and fair price. New drain field will be needed soon."

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

Unlike an urban sewer system that runs wastewater into a central drainage system, septic tanks are a house-by-house system. They are the ultimate destination for all your house’s wastewater—from bathtubs, showers, sinks, toilets, and washing machines. Wastewater flows into a tank buried in the ground outside your home, and then water runs from the tank to a drainage field using sloped pipes.

If there’s a problem with your sewage system, you might notice water pooling on the ground around the tank, which could indicate an overflow. Clogged and sluggish drains or foul smells coming from your plumbing are also signs that there might be a blockage in your septic system.

A well pressure tank typically lasts between 5 and 15 years. However, its lifespan can be influenced by several factors. High-quality, appropriately sized tanks tend to last longer, with some top-of-the-line models lasting up to 30 years. Regular annual maintenance, including inspections, cleaning, and prompt repairs, is crucial for extending the tank's life. Water quality also plays a significant role; water with high levels of sediment, minerals, or rocks can cause premature wear. Overworking an undersized tank can also limit its lifespan.

A septic system inspection costs $100 to $200. Doing so can spot issues early so you can plan for necessary repairs ahead of time and save yourself the issue of a backed-up septic tank. Some septic tank repair professionals do an inspection as part of their yearly maintenance on your septic tank if you choose to pay for that service, but you should shoot to have a septic system inspection completed at least once every two to five years.

There are a lot of issues that can cause a septic tank to collapse. Those include failing to regularly pump or service it every three to five years, placing too much weight atop the system—by parking your car on top of it or because of a heavy snow buildup for instance—or because of structural damage done by overgrown tree roots.
