"Went great and was a great experience from the sales man to the installation. The salesman wasn’t pushy, didn’t try to up sell us but listened to our needs and reasons for updating. We replaced all our windows that were the original 40 year old aluminum single pane, the original sliding glass door, and had a storm door replaced with a solid door. The installation team was very professional, courteous, and the workmanship looks flawless."

"New View Glass just completed my lanai slider glass repair. The condo landscapers shattered the glass after kicking up a rock or two while mowing. New View Glass did an EXCELLENT job in getting the replacement done in a timely manner. I would highly recommend this business!!!"

"Jerry is the head of a1 services and was very responsive to my request. He kept me informed at each stage of the process of reattaching my stained glass artwork to its frame in an outdoor lanai. He knows how to work with stained glass."

"I hired Reese Windows and Doors to replace 11 windows and 2 doors on my 62 year old home in Cape Coral. They did this in one day and I could not be happier. The three gentlemen they sent were polite and accommodating but far more important they knew exactly what they were doing. The work was done neatly and very professionally. Their window are beautiful, easy to use and guaranteed for life. I do not need to do any paint touch up outside or inside. All debris from the work was completely removed. Their supervisor also contacted me to make sure everything was to my satisfaction. An excellent excellent company to do business with. They did exactly what they said they were going to do. They did it quickly and they did it to my satisfaction and I am not the easiest person to satisfy when my money is being spent. I would strongly recommend them to provide new windows and doors."

"After getting quotes from 6 large and small roofing companies, we decided to go with Total Home. Their price was in the middle but everything the salesperson explained to me made it easier to compare companies and possible outcomes. He made good suggestions for placement of additional air vents, replacement of skylights from plastic to glass, and other items which the other companies did not mention or charged much more for. This is a big company so I'll tell you I'm in the Orlando region. The job was started on time and completed within 5 days. It might have been done in 4 but it started raining one day and they covered everything well. Job manager came by a couple of times each day to check progress, including checking on the cleanup. He was very attentive to our satisfaction with everything. I liked that they had someone in the office assigned to follow up with me as needed. I could call her if I had a question or I couldn't reach the job manager and she would follow up with him for me. All this makes me give them an A for customer service. It's been several months and we are very happy with our new roof."

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

Glass block windows aren’t fire hazards; fire-rated glass block windows can increase your home’s fire safety. Modern glass blocks are made with materials that can resist high temperatures and prevent fire spread. Most offer a 45-minute fire rating, while some increase it to two hours. Compared to the typical 20 to 90 minute rating for a double-pane window, glass block can increase your home’s safety in the event of a fire.

Installing glass block windows has benefits and disadvantages, as with most materials. The pros and cons can vary depending on the type of glass block and the window location.

Pros

  • Maintains privacy while letting light into the bathroom

  • Energy efficient

  • Sealed to prevent drafts

  • Aesthetically pleasing

  • Strong and secure

Cons

  • Costly to install

  • Challenging installation

  • Challenging repair

Luckily, glass block windows need minimal maintenance. Other than regular cleaning, the only maintenance involved in having a glass block window is inspecting for cracks every year and applying sealer to the mortar joints if the blocks are set in masonry mortar. Glass block windows hold up well against wind and moisture better than traditional windows and are not prone to rot.

Although glass block windows are made of multiple layers of thick glass, they can still break. If an individual block shatters, it can be removed and replaced, but this is a job for a window repair professional. The project is often complex and may require breaking the block further for removal. Do not attempt to handle it yourself, as the broken glass can be dangerously sharp. A professional will have the necessary tools and expertise to replace the broken glass block quickly and safely. Before hiring, confirm that the repair pro has experience with this specific type of window.

Heavy glass tends to be more expensive than thin glass because it is stronger and more durable. In most cases, ¼-inch-thick glass is ideal for mirrors, and ⅛-inch-thick glass is ideal for residential windows. Heavier glass isn’t always necessary, and can be more challenging to hang or install. Work with a local window installation pro for replacement or new construction windows.
