"Thank you so much from all of us at Sparkling Kleen. You and your wife were a joy to work with! So glad your pleased."
"Thank you so much Mr. [Member Name Removed]! You are a pleasure to work with. The Sparkling Kleen Crew"
"We would like to respond by first reiterating that all we did for this customer was a motor replacement, new volute, & new filter housing. All equipment was installed according to manufacturers specifications, with manufacturers warranties. The pool pump was never replaced for this customer by Sparkling Kleen Pools. The motor to the pump was replaced in February 2015. The manufacturer warranty on motors is one year. We have no control over life span of motors or the coverage of the warranty. We would have been happy to replace the o ring had we'd been called. The motor was almost 2 years old when customer stated it needed to be replaced."
Knowing it would be a mess if the entire joint was ground out, especially with the pool full of water, we opted to just go with the repairs the leak detector person had made. We opted to be reimbursed for the diagnosis performed by our hired leak detector since their technician just gave the entire incident lip service. The foreman who came to look at the repairs said he would have the owner 'Mike' reimburse us for the $175.
We have tried repeatedly to have our $175 returned. All requests, although met with positive responses by the office personnel, have been ignored by the owner - MIKE.
In 2012, I contracted SparklingKleen to replaster my pool using a finish called Stonescapes. Less than three years later, the plaster -- which supposedly carried a "life-time" warranty -- began cracking around the steps and beneath the glass blocks serving as a spillway from my spa. It was clear to me that either the Stonescapes plaster was inferior or that Sparkling Kleen applied it incorrectly. Neither company accepted responsibility. I paid SparklingKleen to repair the cracks, however, the company applied a color that did not match the blance of the plaster in the pool. The result was a two-toned pool. SparklingKleen and Stonescapes denied all responsibility, claiming that the new plaster color was correct. They asserted that the remaining undamaged part of my pool -- about 80% of it -- changed color due to chemical influences, even though there were no signs of uneven discoloration. They were also quick to point the finger of blame at my pool heater and my previous pool service.
For more than five months, SparklingKleen performed numerous on-and-off again treatments, including acid-washing, in an attempt to prove themselves correct. I allowed the testing to go on for a protracted period because SparklingKleen owner Mike Yohann promised in April 2015 that, if the testing failed, his company would refinish my entire pool and spa at its expense. However, when the testing was completed in August 2015, Yohann reneged on his promise, telling me his company would only pay half of the $4000 cost to refinish. He conveniently omited the fact that his promise in April was predicated on his company being reimbursed by plaster manufacturer.
All during the testing period, neither SparklingKleen nor Stonescapes would discuss their processes or results, unless I pressed them for information. Given the behavior of the companies during the 5-month process, it came as no surprise that the manufacturer refused to honor its warranty and that SparklingKleen -- further demonstrating that it could not be trusted -- sided with the manufacturer to avoid liability and expense.
Going forward, I will continue to share experiences of my relationship with SparklingKleen. Furthermore, my two-toned pool now serves as a showcase for the inferior work the company performs. I would be hard-pressed to recommend SparklingKleen as a contractor, hoping to spare other pool owners the same degrees of aggravation, disappointment and expense that I experienced.
Mike the owner gave us a quote he was very professional on time and we thought he was great he said they could start the work in two months and would be finished in a little more than a week and that we would be enjoying our new pool by mid-March. When the work was ready to begin we received the wrong bullnose so our job was postponed a week. The new bullnose arrived and was installed along with the waterline tile but the bullnose had manufacturing defects and was broken (but was installed anyways). We had to wait another few days for the construction foreman to come inspect the damaged bullnose who agreed that it was damaged and needed to be replaced. We then had to wait a few days for Mike to come out who also agreed that it was a manufacturing problem and they had to be replaced. We waited another week for new bullnose that was from the same lot as the last and was damaged. We then waited another week for more DAMAGED bullnose to be delivered. At this point our job is more than 3-weeks behind and everyday we look out to our lanai and pool that is a messy construction site and our almost empty pool is a cesspool with trash and cigarette butts floating in it. Finally the decision is to pick through the damaged bullnose and find the best looking most undamaged ones and use those. Unfortunately when they removed the first bullnose they also broke many of the glass tiles that was installed along the waterline. During the month of mishap's and problems Julie who runs the scheduling and crews left out of town for family matters and Mike was scheduling everything. On at least five different occasions Mike said a crew was going to be at our home to finish and no one ever showed up and we were lied to on multiple occasions by Mike saying they were on their way and they were not when I mentioned that he lied to me he started yelling at me and telling me I was ballistic (what does that even mean). Once Julie came back we were once again getting good follow through and she was letting us know what was going on each day and what to expect (Julie was great!). The rest of the remodel went well and a little more than 6-WEEKS after the pool was emptied our job was complete or so we thought. We then noticed that many of our pavers were damaged, that the pad outside or lanai (that we paid extra for) was not the correct size and they forgot to drill out the holes in the bottom of the hot tub. It then took them another week to fix these problems and after they drilled the holes in the hot tub they left the chunks of concrete in the bottom and didn't clean up after their work. Once we actually got in the pool we saw that the bullnose they used was actually damaged and the waterline tile was noticeably broken in many areas. I then called into the office and was told to take pictures of everything (why is this my job) I said that there were so many problem areas and I would have to go in the pool with my phone/camera and wasn't comfortable doing that and was told to do my best. I did what they asked then uploaded all of the pictures at least 10 to a zip file and e-mailed them which took over an hour. They then said someone would be out to look at it and when I asked when they didn't know. After over a week someone came to look at the tiles and bullnose they agreed it was all damaged and they took more pictures with their phone. Another week went by and now our hot tub was not working, unfortunately after everything we went through we were furious! I called into the office and left a voicemail I was very upset and raised my voice when talking on the voicemail. The next morning I received an e-mail from Mikes wife Lori telling me to never call the office again that the tone I took was very upsetting and she didn't want to talk to me again (of course they had already cashed our $21,000 check). If you are in the business of remodeling and the job takes a very bad turn for the worse it seems to me that you should allow your customers to get a little upset and try to be understanding maybe even say your sorry??? My husband then called the office and spoke to Mike he wanted the owner to come look at the mess they made of our tile and bullnose. Once again on three different times Mike told us he would be out and never showed (again they already had our money). Mike said he was very busy (as if taking time off work so we could meet him was something easy for us because were not busy). When Mike finally came to our house he also agreed that the tile and bullnose was bad but said at least you can only see this when your in the pool and it wont hurt resale. He then said he would have his crew come out to try to fix it but it would be almost impossible to make it look perfect. The crew then came back a fixed a few thing which made some of it look even worse and when they showed us we all agreed to leave it alone and we would live with it (then left broken pieces of glass in the bottom of the pool and hot tub). The final thing that happened was a few of our neighbors came over during the beginning of the work when they saw our Sparkling Kleen Pools sign out front and asked what we were doing. When I told them the work I was doing they also needed some of those things done and asked if I would refer them I told them that Mike was great and that I received a few quotes and did my research and the they were a good company that used quality materials for a fair price. I never received a single thank you from anyone at Sparkling Kleen even though two of my neighbors used them because of my referral. I will say this for the company Julie is great and so are most of the workers but the bottom line is that Mike and Lori the two people making the most money are terrible business owners to work with!
"A company is judged not by the issues that arise during the work, but rather by their ability to handle the issues and maintain the customer’s satisfaction. We are always sorry to hear that a customer is dissatisfied. Our reputation as a pool construction company speaks for itself, which is why the Osuch family picked us to do their job. It is also why they referred us to their neighbors, who are very happy with the work we performed at their residences and gave us high marks for the quality and timing on their jobs. Sparkling Kleen has no control over the different suppliers of pavers, tile or plaster we use. We strive to use top quality products, however, even the best manufacturers have a glitch in their production or their quality control. Unfortunately the paver manufacturer delivered damaged bullnose. The Osuch job started as planned. The delay in completing the job stemmed from waiting to receive new product from the manufacturer. Mrs. Osuch was not receptive to the fact that our hands were tied and there was nothing that we could do until we received the replacement bullnose from the manufacturer. I understand her frustration and regret the fact that it took longer to complete her project. However, the project was completed to this customer’s satisfaction and this customer happily paid their final bill. As the owners of the company, Lori and I treat our customers with the utmost respect. We act as models for our employees to follow and make sure that our employees treat our customers the same way. Mrs. Osuch was treated with the same respect, she was emotional and irate when she called the office, at that time Lori asked that she not call the office but use email to communicate. Since that incident we dealt with Mr. Osuch, who was pleasant and communicative. He asked us to deal only with him. I find it odd that almost 3 months after the job was completed, Mrs. Osuch decided to write this review. Upon completion of the project and finalizing with Mr. Osuch, he thanked us and told us how much they loved the job. As Mrs. Osuch stated they did a lot of research before picking Sparkling Kleen to do their project. They checked our credentials and references, compared prices and interviewed me twice. I am saddened that a manufacturing error is tainting her opinion of us."
"We're so saddened that (removed member name) chose to make public a complaint that she never actually made to us. Until this review was published, she never told us about any dissatisfaction with her pool step and never gave us the opportunity to correct any possible defect. When we called her to discuss the issue with us, she hung up on us. We very much hope that she calls us back and lets us try to remedy the situation. We take our Angie's List reputation very seriously. Contractors do sometimes make mistakes, and it's possible that we made one here. But smearing us without letting us correct a possible error is not what Angie's List is all about."
