Why is Plant It Forward’s slogan ‘Conscientious Landscape Design’? "In the fall of 2014, Dan came out to my home and patiently listened to me attempt to describe the scrambled and completely clueless 'vision' I had in my head for my dream of a backyard paradise. He spent a good hour and a half with me, walking every inch of my yard so he could see 'his blank canvas' from all angles. He listened to my priorities, which were providing for the birds, butterflies, safety of my pets, and the must for easy maintenance. He came back about a week or so later and showed me the layout he had created...he really captured the spirit of my 'vision' and took the time to describe each plant on the drawing and explain why he chose same. We discussed a couple of 'tweaks', which he had absolutely no problem with whatsoever, as arrogance is definitely not one of Dan's characteristics. He came back a short time later with the adjustments and everything appeared to be perfect.
We had the plants put in late fall, and of course, at that time, everything was basically getting ready for winter, so between the size of the new plants and their preparing for the cold, the yard really wasn't much to look at, so I had to stick with the 'vision' in my head for a bit longer. I was so excited to see what everything would look like... it was like waiting for Christmas! In April things finally started to take shape, and by June...I had the most amazing backyard paradise you could ever imagine! My birds felt safe, the butterflies were too many to even count, my dogs had all kinds of new things to smell (and attempt to pee on, unfortunately), and I finally had a place where I could shut out the world and just relax. Dan got it so RIGHT! From every angle my yard is a beautiful and easy to care for work of art.
Since then, I've contacted Dan a few times (most recently this past Jan/Feb), just to get his thoughts on winterizing and the addition of a couple of new plants, and he has been awesome with his responses. Not just quick answers and blow offs... he was actually interested in what I had to say and was asking, and he showed that by putting incredible detail and useful advice in all of his responses. Dan put so much time and thought into his responses, i even offered to pay him, which he graciously refused.
I wholeheartedly recommend using Dan for any and all landscape advice. He loves what he does, and most importantly, he respects and listens to your thoughts and 'vision' (no matter how 'scrambled') without being condescending or a jerk (like quite a few of the other landscapers I've come across here in Tallahassee).
