"My heater went out in the middle of the night Saturday on the coldest day (28!). I called SeaCoast and they had David out here within 30 minutes and had it repaired in less than 30 minutes. Super nice guy, very knowledgeable and professional! I’ve been using SeaCoast since 2006 and I have never had any problems with them. Always professional, courteous, and I never have to wait long at all for an appointment. They’re the best!"

Small jobs welcome

"I recently had my old water heater replaced by Luz Plumbing And Cooling and I couldnâ t be happier with the service I received. From start to finish, the entire process was seamless and professional. The initial consultation was thorough, with the technician explaining all my options and helping me choose the best water heater for my needs and budget. They were transparent about costs and provided a detailed estimate upfront, so there were no surprises later. On the day of the installation, the team arrived promptly and got to work immediately. They were courteous, respectful of my home, and took great care to minimize any disruption. The installation was completed efficiently, and they even took the time to explain how the new system worked, ensuring I felt comfortable with its operation. What truly impressed me was their attention to detail. They not only removed the old unit without making a mess but also cleaned up thoroughly after the installation. Additionally, they checked all the connections and made sure everything was functioning perfectly before they left."

Boiler Repair questions, answered by experts

At a minimum, an HVAC system should be serviced once per year. However, a twice-a-year service schedule—once in the spring for the cooling system and once in the fall for the heating system—is often recommended, especially for older systems, heat pumps, or in climates with extreme temperatures. Regular service, which includes inspection, cleaning, and maintenance, ensures the system runs efficiently, helps prevent costly breakdowns during peak seasons, and can extend the unit's lifespan. You can also schedule a service if you notice issues like poor performance or strange noises.

Some of the signs of HVAC issues include rising energy bills, rooms not cooling or heating properly, loud noises when in operation, and signs of condensation. To illustrate, if you’re wondering how to stop condensation on air vents, you’ll need to have your HVAC inspected.

No, there isn’t always water in radiators. In a one-pipe system, water is constantly circulating from the boiler to the radiators and back. In a two-pipe system, water travels through two separate channels: one that goes to your radiators and one that returns back to the boiler so it can heat up again.

A poorly maintained boiler can lead to serious issues like deadly carbon monoxide poisoning, so schedule regular maintenance services. Of course, it’s also a good idea to check your carbon monoxide detectors in your home to make sure they’re working properly. Moreover, when you forget to maintain your boiler, small problems can lead to something much more serious, which will cost you more money in the long run. Repairs average around $400, while a full replacement can total over $6,000.

You can save money on heating oil through a combination of improving home efficiency and smart purchasing strategies.

Home Efficiency and Usage:

  • Improve Insulation: Ensure your home, especially the basement and attic, is well-insulated and sealed against drafts to prevent heat leakage.

  • Manage Your Thermostat: Use a properly calibrated and programmable thermostat. Lower the temperature by a few degrees, particularly when you are away from home or asleep.

Purchasing Strategies:

  • Buy in the Off-Season: Order heating oil during the summer months when prices are generally at their lowest. This strategy is most effective if you have a large primary tank or a separate storage tank to accommodate bulk deliveries.

  • Consider a Delivery Contract: Some companies offer contracts with a set price for the term. This can lead to savings if market prices for oil increase, but you might pay more if prices drop.
