"Very well. Mr. Shifrin even came to our home on a weekend day to work on the washer, without charging an exorbitant fee. He did an excellent job pressure washing our metal roof. It is steeply pitched, and he worked safely, yet did a thorough job of it."

"Excellent. Sal showed up on time and paid close attention to detail. Assessed the paint, coordinated the colors with my wife and came early every day to beat the rain when painting the deck. Couldn't have asked for a better result. Thanks Sal."

"Melanie came to our home promptly and gave us estimates on two types of fencing. She was knowledgeable and courteous. When we decided to hire, it was done the same week over a two day period. The man that came to put up the fence was very nice and worked hard. The second day he came later than we expected but he brought a helper and they did a great job finishing the project. They cleaned up the old rotten fencing. We are very pleased with the new fence. We will choose this business again and I would recommend them to anyone. Great job, Thanks!"

"Excellent!! In my newly purchased home, I wanted the color in the master bedroom changed. The existing paint job was excellent - I just wanted a different color (from blue to gray). When I showed Matt my choices he made a suggestion (a warmer gray as opposed to a cooler gray for the bedroom). I am so glad I followed his advice. Matt arrived on time with all tools and materials. He removed wall plates and covered trim. He asked me to look after the first coat to make sure he was doing what I wanted. Then, when finished - it was so beautiful! The color turned out to be perfect and completely covered the old color. The job was spotless in that there were no skipped spaces and no disturbance to the already perfectly done trim and closet door (which were white). Matt is so professional and also so personable. He is a dream to work with!!

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Covering your deck with a breathable tarp can protect it from snow, ice, and cold winter temperatures. This is a good winterizing solution if you don’t plan to use your deck at all during the colder months. However, it might be best to skip the tarp if you’ll still be walking on your deck or using it in a limited capacity.

Building codes for deck railings can vary by location, so it's important to consult your local regulations before construction. Generally, a guardrail is required for any deck that is more than 30 inches above the ground.

For residential properties, the standard minimum height for a deck railing is 36 inches. However, some states and municipalities have stricter requirements; for example, California and Washington mandate railings that are at least 42 inches high. Therefore, a 42-inch railing is not considered too high and may be required in your area or chosen voluntarily for additional safety.

In addition to height requirements, codes also specify other safety features, such as the maximum spacing between balusters to ensure they are close enough to prevent a child from squeezing through.

In most cases, sanding an old deck before staining it is necessary to achieve a decent finish. If your old deck has a relatively new stain finish on it and you're only doing touch-ups, you can generally skip the sanding part. However, if your goal is to make the deck look and function better, sanding first is a must.

Yes, designing builds to fit space constraints and meet functional needs.

To prepare a deck for a hot tub, start by thinking about safe and easy access in and out of the tub. Homeowners should plan for steps or consider built-in seating, a level surface around the perimeter, and a clear, slip-resistant path from the house. A hot tub requires sufficient space around it for comfortable entry and exit, ensuring no awkward squeezing or stepping over high edges. Good lighting and handrails can also make a big difference, especially for nighttime use.
