"I contacted David about the work I needed done - the brick stairs at my front entry way were sinking and the mortar between the bricks had deteriorated over time and was coming out making the bricks loose.? I asked David for a quote to remove the stairs and relay the brick to match the house.?? David came out initially in March (within 2 days of my first call) and quoted the work at $2900.? I was in the middle of a refinance of my mortgage and thought I'd be ready to start the project within 2-3 weeks which was about the work lag time David gave me.? Unfortunately it was about 5 weeks before I was ready to start the project and David was well into his summer list of projects by then?so once I told him I was ready it was more like 4 weeks before I could get on his calendar...this was expected and discussed up front so was not a problem.? Since my home was built in the 60's David had to find additional bricks to match what I already had since not all my existing bricks would be able to be salvaged.? The work was started on Wednesday so the guys dropped off a load of bricks on Tuesday afternoon and before 7:30 on Wed. morning they were fully involved in the gentle demolition of the old staircase so as not to damage the bricks.? They were able to salvage better than 50% of the bricks, the rest were cracked and damaged over time and wear and were not worthy of reuse.? Once the demolition was complete it was discovered that there was no foundation beneath the original staircase so a concrete slab was poured and left to set.? Over the next 3 days the stairs were rebuilt and look almost exactly as originally built.? What a fantastic job they did!? The additional bricks they brought matched and looked like they belonged to the original work.? When the work was done, I paid exactly what they told me the job would cost - $2,900.? These are old school masons - real artists and I would recommend them for any brick, block, hardscape work that you have.? David is a great guy and it was a pleasure to work with him."

"Mike is a very hard headed individual and we seemed to clash often.  He was more excited about the sink and vanity than I was.  He told me I could "dumpster dive" at the granite company but he would not give me the address a week later.  I asked for a new bathroom frosted glass window and he said that would would have to be a custom order (I thought everything was custom) and it was never changed by him.  Exhaust fan?  Nope, not installed.  My vanity's bottom drawer is misaligned and I am extremely hesitant to speak with him again (the little rubber stoppers in the drawers have fallen off).  48 hours after the job was done and I could use the shower,  I found that the shower seat was too large and the water comes out on the floor.  Jen and Jonathan came out the next day to check it out.  I waited patiently to hear from Mike and finally sent him a message about it.  (His method of measuring was my sitting down on ottoman and he measured with a piece of cardboard).  It was too large and installed without any incline so the water just sits - what doesn't go out on the floor!  He told me that it would be $350 to fix the seat and I could not believe it.  Jonathan spoke with me at first and he gave the phone to Mike who was yelling in the background, he really read me the riot act and finally hung up on me, I never did get a word in edgewise. He was very angry and rude.
I wish we could start it all over and I would have a smaller seat, vanity doors that matched, and a new window!  We don't have much money and this was a great big deal for us.  Thank goodness for Jen and Jonathan.  My husband and I would talk about it every evening... it makes me so sad.
I am probably too sensitive and was feeling so badly.  I am in mid 60's, disabled (thus the seat in shower), but really, why did he have to be SO angry?!! And don't get me started on the $45 towel bar installation.  Yes, he helped get my yard trash picked up - but I would have preferred to have things in the bathroom done right.  He was always in a good mood when my husband or I was writing a check.  Go ahead and hire him, his employees are awesome!

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

Glass walls are more expensive overall than their brick or drywall counterparts. However, if you need walls for a building with more than two or three stories, glass walls are the more budget-friendly option.

Glass block mortar is the best choice for glass block window units. It is specifically formulated for glass block window installation. Glass block mortar is usually a mixture of Portland cement, sand, and special chemicals. It is a white mortar that is applicable inside and outside your home. Do not use regular tile mortar because it may not have the binding strength and flexibility required for glass block windows.

DIY is possible for small projects, but professional installation ensures proper sealing, structural integrity, and a precise finish.

New glass costs anywhere from $3 to $100 per square foot. More specifically, tempered and insulated glass—a common option for sliding glass doors—costs between $10 and $14 per square foot.

You can still see vaguely into some types of glass block windows at night. Although there won’t be clear definitions, passersby may still see shapes, shadows, and movement through the glass. If you want complete privacy, consider installing diamond glass block windows rather than the typical clear or wavy glass blocks.
