Small jobs welcome

"Needed electric service run from the breaker panel in my house to a newly installed workshop in back of my house. They ran the service and installed a sub-panel, 6 outlets, 3 overhead junction boxes, and 2 junction boxes for outdoor lighting. They gave me a good quote and did the installation in 1 day. Arrived when they said they would and performed quality work. Very pleased with the installation. I would definitely hire these guys again."

Yes, you should hire a handyman who’s licensed, certified, and insured, if possible. States have different requirements for handyman licensing, registration, and certifications. If licensing is required in your area, you may pay more for a licensed handyman with experience than one who is not licensed or certified, but you’re likely to get a better end result for your project. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local handymen guidelines.

It really depends on what you are hiring them for

Helpful?

For mailbox repair, keep touch-up paint rated for high UV and humidity to combat the harsh FL climate. Salt air accelerates rust and wood rot rapidly. Keep your HOA or historic district approved specifications on hand to ensure any fixes match community standards exactly. You should also store bracing materials to temporarily secure your post before a tropical storm arrives, preventing it from becoming a dangerous projectile.

Helpful?

Always check your HOA rules and local regulations before starting any mailbox repair. Document the existing damage with photos for your FL homeowner's insurance records. Avoid attempting to reset a leaning post yourself during the rainy season, as saturated sandy soil will not hold it. Never use temporary fixes heading into hurricane season, because a poorly braced post becomes a severe projectile hazard in high winds.

Helpful?

A re-emerging lean indicates the previous mailbox repair did not account for sandy local soil conditions. If the post wobbles during moderate wind, the concrete footing is insufficient for coastal gusts. Visible rust bleeding through paint means the corrosion was simply covered up rather than treated. Peeling finish within one season shows the materials used cannot withstand the intense UV and humidity levels found throughout Saint Augustine.

Helpful?

In Saint Augustine, signs like peeling paint, warped wood, musty smells, or visible water stains indicate it’s time for handyman services. Rising energy bills, pest sightings, or loose roof shingles also suggest repairs are needed. Schedule exterior work from October to April for milder weather. After major storms or every five years, a comprehensive home assessment helps identify maintenance needs unique to Saint Augustine homes.
