"I hired Earl Pruitt to fix my pump. The technician was wonderful. Very professional. He walked me through everything. He worked quickly and throughly. Went the extra mile to make sure all areas were up and running before leaving. I was extremely pleased with his service. I would recommend them. Thank you Leslie Paolilli [email protected]"

"Excellent response to my questions about using a hybrid in my home. Received good guidance from main office on the appropriate unit to purchase. Installation was quick and professional. When I had an issue with a unit alarm the day after installation, I got an immediate response from the plumber who had installed the unit, who returned the next day to remedy the issue. I highly recommend this very customer focused company. I will hire them again with any plumbing needs."

"Very professional, located and handled the issue with our sump pump drain line blockage within hrs. But not only that then went the extra mile to prevent the blockage from ever occurring again in the future and making a whole new drain line above ground so it doesnâ t get blocked with mud with the Florida rain. The gentleman Marty is very service oriented and has a very high care factor."

"Apex Plumbing employees, James and Zach, came to my house to repair a water leak that stopped all water service to my house. James came and cleared the lawn covering my pipes. Then Zach came, located the leak and replaced the water pipe serving my house. Unfortnately, The meter showed a continuing leak. James crawled under my house and found an unknown second leak. They eliminated that pipe leak under my house. I now have full water service to my house with no more leaks. Thank you Zach and James for a complete repair of known and unknown leaks. Good job!"

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

There are several things you can do to maintain your sump pump and prevent sump pump problems. For instance, keeping a lid on your sump pit goes a long way in protecting your pump system from silt, sand, dirt, and other debris. When water drains from the outside, such as along your foundation, or with melting snow, water runoff often brings sediment with it.

Also be wary of corrosion, particularly if your sump pump system is made of metal. Keep an eye out for rust and have it inspected regularly by a plumber or sump pump technician.

Sump pumps prevent basement flooding, reduce humidity, and protect against water damage.

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to move wastewater and solid waste to the municipal sewer or septic tank. However, for fixtures located below grade (e.g., in a basement), gravity is not sufficient.

The purpose of a sewage ejector pump is to actively pump this wastewater and solid waste upward into the main sewer line. Without an ejector pump in this situation, wastewater would have no way to exit and would eventually back up, causing a sewage overflow or flooding in your basement. If all of your home's plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity can handle the drainage, and an ejector pump is not needed.

If you’re wondering if your home even needs a sump pump, consider whether you’ve struggled with flooding issues in the past. If your house is in a flood-prone area, your yard has poor drainage, or you’ve dealt with any other water problems, then it’s likely well worth it to replace your old sump pump with a new one.

If you notice any new sump pump noises, such as persistent clanging or gurgling, then you likely have a sump pump problem on your hands. Foul odors coming from the pump can also indicate problems. Additionally, if your unit turns on but doesn't pump water, you might have to address electrical problems. In any of these cases, it's a good idea to hire a professional to address the issue.
