"Julio was the very first to call me back ASAP!!! I think he called within 5 minutes!!! Super nice guy and came to my house that later evening before heading home! Unfortunately, he really wasn’t able to help me with all the odds and ends I think because his drive would of been to far away and he said I should try someone closer to where I live now. However, he did say if I couldn’t find anyone to let him know and he would help me!!! So super great guy just wish we could of worked together he seemed to have his ‘things in order’ for running a good business!!"

"Adrian and his brothers did a marvelous job on my attached carport. They are very professional and kind. My project was done in a time manner and turned out better than I expected. I've hired his company for a second project!"

"We hired Lou after we were unable to hire any subcontractors on our own and are glad we did. Lou gave us a bid up front, scheduled all the subcontractors, made sure our home was cleaned up every day as we were living in it during the remodel, met every contractor and supervised their work, resolved any scheduling problems that came up and made this remodeling job very smooth for us. It could be very inconvenient to have both your bathrooms remodeled at once, but Lou and Jesse kept their eye on things, made sure the subcontractors finished on a timely basis and cut costs for us when they could. We couldn't have asked for a better result. We love both bathrooms as well the as outdoor kitchen area they tiled and installed a new countertop in. Everything looks great! Thanks Lou!!"

Barndominium Builders FAQs, answered by experts

Common pitfalls include underestimating the cost of site preparation, overlooking permit and utility fees, and not setting aside funds for unexpected changes. Change orders during construction can disrupt your budget. It’s best to plan a detailed budget, obtain multiple quotes, and include a 10% to 15% contingency fund for unexpected expenses.

Whether you should choose a flat roof or a sloped roof depends on your particular situation. Flat roofs tend to be less expensive to install. However, sloped roofs have longer lifespans and stand up better to heavy snow and other inclement weather.

Keep in mind that even a flat roof needs to have a slight slope, usually around 1/2 inch for every foot. If it is completely flat, water will pool and cause damage, either from weight or leakage or rot.

Rather than using a common two-by-four piece of wood for a rafter, you probably will use two-by-six, two-by-eight, two-by-ten, or even two-by-twelve boards. Wider lumber is typically a better choice in a larger building as it provides more sturdiness. Some installers may use wider lumber for rafters near the edges of the roof, where the greatest stress occurs, and save money with narrower lumber toward the middle.

Yes, barn doors can be too heavy, although the limitation is usually imposed by the mounting hardware you buy and not your home’s framing, unless you’re building an unusually wide door. To keep the weight down, you can opt for 1-by material rather than 2-by material, and choose a softwood like pine rather than a hardwood like maple or oak. Check the weight limits on your mounting hardware, and always attach your door track to studs rather than to drywall anchors.

A 5x8 trailer can fit a queen-sized bed plus additional items. It is one of the most common sizes for enclosed cargo trailers, open utility trailers, and dump trailers. U-Haul, a national trailer rental company serving most U.S. markets, claims its 5x8 enclosed trailer can tow up to 1,800 pounds.
